除此之外,Z.I.P.

1)Zynga loses another executive as its CFO heads to Facebook

By Frank Cifaldi

In what is becoming increasingly familiar news to industry watchers this year, Zynga lost another executive today, though this particular departure seems more pleasant than most.

Chief financial officer David Wehner has left for what Zynga tells us is a senior finance position at Facebook. Mark Vranesh, Zynga’s chief accounting officer who came to the company from network security company Fortinet, will replace him.

“Mark Vranesh and I have been close partners during my tenure at Zynga and I wish my colleagues well as the company continues to deliver on its vision,” Wehner said in a statement sent by Zynga on Tuesday.

This isn’t the first time Vranesh has worn Zynga’s CFO shoes: he served that position from May 2008 through August 2010 as well, before transitioning back to CAO.

The company did a bit of executive shuffling as part of the transition: former chief mobile officer David Ko is its new chief operations officer, former executive vp of business and corporate development (and, before that, EA executive) Barry Cottle its its new chief revenue officer, and Steven Chiang, formerly the VP of games (and also formerly of EA), is now the president of games.

Zynga has lost quite a few executives since posting heavy losses back in July. Perhaps most famous among these was COO John Schappert, who made headlines by filing his resignation soon after being stripped of most of his duties at the company.

Other chief officers who have left the company since then include CCO Mike Verdu, CTO Allan Leinwand, CMO and CRO Jeff Karp, and CSO Nils Puhlmann.

The company is currently undergoing an identity change of sorts, heavily promoting its push toward “mid-core” mobile game development and, starting next year, real money gambling.(source:gamasutra

2)Rumble Entertainment snaps up 2 former Zynga design directors

by James Nouch

Cross-platform free-to-play specialist Rumble Entertainment has announced the appointment of two Zynga veterans to its team – Brian Schneider and Steve Desilets.

Schneider previously served as a director or design as Zynga – working on titles such as CityVille and Treasure Isle – and before that, he worked as a lead game designer for Wizards of the Coast.

At Rumble Entertainment, Schneider will form part of the company’s executive team and be tasked with managing the retention and monetisation strategy for the company’s portfolio of games.

Let’s get ready to rumble

Steve Desilets also worked as a design director at Zynga, a role which saw him developing new IP for the company’s mobile division. Desilets’ career in game design also includes stints at Electronic Arts and Valve, where he worked on projects such as Half Life 2: Episode 2.

Exactly what role Desilets will step into is not made clear in Rumble Entertainment’s announcement, although the company states that he’ll be working alongside co-founder John Yoo to “create immersive and irresistible experiences for Rumble’s players.”

It’s worth noting that Yoo is also a former employee of Zynga, and during his time at the social gaming company he worked as senior game designer on CityVille.

Redefinition

“At Rumble, we are in pursuit of redefining the games experience on digital platforms,” explained the company’s founder and CEO Greg Richardson.

“Brian’s track record of successfully engaging customers across different types of microtransaction games and Steve’s raw creativity will further our mission of creating the world’s best free-to-play games.”

3)Want to make games at Zynga? Then get yourself on ‘The Job’ [Report]

by Joe Osborne

Before you ask: Yes, “The Job” is an upcoming reality show that will appear on CBS in short order. According to a source familiar with the matter, the house that built FarmVille will hire one associate game designer that participates in the upcoming game show to work in its San Francisco office. Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel. (For publicity, we mean.)

Open casting calls for the program took place in San Francisco and New York early last month, according to the show’s home page, and shooting began last week, our source tells us. The casting call for Zynga’s future associate game designer was held in the Bay Area, according to a non-disclosure agreement provided to the tipster in error during shooting for a different episode, for the eighth episode of the first season.

The shoot would have likely included Zynga executives interviewing potential candidates on camera, two rounds of quizzes and missions for the candidates to complete, the source tells us.

Later during the shoot, three industry-related guests were likely brought in to make bids on the candidates for them to join their own companies, based on what the tipster witnessed for a different episode of “The Job” shot in New York.

It’s not exactly a huge leap for Zynga to work with CBS on such a show, especially considering the promotions that the two companies have already worked on together. Remember the Big Brother event in Hidden Chronicles, or how about those old rumors that Draw Something was to become a game show on CBS? Something tells us this is going to be much, much more entertaining.

We’ve reached out to Zynga for comment.(source:games

4)Zynga fan appreciation program Z.I.P. comes back for round two

by Brandy Shaul

About a year ago, some of Zynga’s most dedicated players were chosen at random to become “Z.I.P.s” in Zynga’s then new fan appreciation program, rewarding them with “exclusive Zynga goodies” and even early access to some of Zynga’s newest games. While that setup sounded great at the time, it never really went anywhere, and the majority of Zynga’s gamers were left entirely out in the cold.

Skip forward to the present and we see the Big Z bringing the Z.I.P. program back for another go, but this time, players can voluntarily sign up to be Z.I.P.s, without the need to be invited first. Once you get to the Z.I.P. Program website, you’ll be able to connect to your Facebook account and will be given a hub of sorts allowing you to browse the program’s features.

The more active you are in the Z.I.P. program, the more reward points you’ll earn, and your progress will eventually be turned into items like real world Zynga-themed goodies, in-game premium currency or even gift cards to third party online stores.

As a Z.I.P., you’ll also gain access to sneak peeks of future games, and will of course be able to provide feedback on the games that you “test” prior to launch. Unfortunately, these rewards apparently sound so great that the service’s website is pretty slow, and even bounces back errors as of this writing. Still, it’s worth keeping this new and improved Z.I.P. program on your radar so that you can sign up as soon as you can. Good luck!(source:games
