每日观察:关注《Moshi Monsters》主题儿童平板电脑(8.25)

1)Strategy Analytics

1)Consumers pay for fewer than ten per cent of their apps

by Zen Terrelonge

And they hate slow glitch-riddled offerings – take note, developers.

The latest report from Strategy Analytics’ Wireless Media Lab warns developers that they have certain expectations to meet if they want to secure customer loyalty, and make a popular app, while app stores should make the content easy to find.

Consumers want stable, useful, and easy to use apps, and are irked by apps are that send spam and run too many ads, as well as ones that are slow and glitchy.

But they shouldn’t be too choosy, considering that they pay for less than ten per cent of the apps on their phone, meaning more than 80 per cent are free.

Of course, that doesn’t guarantee a premium app is going to meet the standards they demand, and the data is a wake-up call to all.

Taryn Tulay, analyst, Strategy Analytics Wireless Media Lab, said: “For apps to hold any monetary value to the consumer, apps must be unique, of good quality and used by the consumer on a daily basis – providing them with a service or feature that they cannot get anywhere else.”

Paul Brown, director, Strategy Analytics’ User Experience Practice, said: “Ease of finding apps was rated the most important attribute of an app store, followed by good availability of free applications.

“With most consumers visiting a mobile application store multiple times per week, it is important for app stores to make discoverability of apps as straightforward as possible for the consumer due to the increasing number of mobile applications available.”(source:mobile-ent

2)Facebook forcing its employees to use Android

by Mike Shaw

Social giant knows its Android app sucks so is eating its own dog food.

A report in Business Insider says that Facebook is encouraging (and in some cases ordering) its staff to give up their iPhones for Android devices.

However, this is not because of a Facebook/Apple dispute, rather it’s because the social media monster knows how bad its Android app is, so is making its developers live with it as an incentive to make improvements.

This process, known as dogfooding, is common in the tech industry.

The last update to the iOS Facebook app made it a native iOS experience rather than using the HTML5 from the website, so maybe we’re going to see a native Android experience as well.

While using HTML5 has worked quite well in some respects, it has led to inconsistencies between browser and app accessibility, particularly since Facebook rolled out Timeline.(source:mobile-ent

3)Moshi Monsters making a tablet for children

by Mike Shaw

Seven-inch Android tab will be based on the popular online game.

Children’s electronics specialist Ingo Devices has teamed up with Mind Candy to produce a Moshi Monsters children’s touch screen tablet.

Using Android, the device has a seven-inch capacitive touch screen with wi-fi, a built-in camera, USB connection and an SD card slot.

The Moshi tablet includes a completely re-styled Moshi themed OS, featuring Moshi icons, wallpapers, pictures and comes loaded with Moshi content like music videos and even includes codes that can be redeemed for items in the Moshi Monsters virtual world.

The firm has also produced a Hello Kitty version.(source:mobile-ent

4)Rumor Mill: Apple Is Holding Two Separate Events For The New iPhone And iPad

John Biggs

The Intermacweb is in a tizzy today at the possibility of two upcoming Apple events – one on September 12 for a September 21st iPhone launch and another for iPad news, potentially for the fabled iPad Mini. The rumors, fanned by Gruber and Jim Dalrymple, posit that Apple is beyond the “One More Thing” excitement of the old days and is instead planning to make the most of each launch.

Quoth Gruber:

I’m thinking it makes more sense for Apple to hold two events. First, an iPhone event, focused solely on the new iPhone and iOS 6. Then, the iPhone ships nine days later, and there’s another wave of iPhone-focused attention as the reviews come out. Then, in the first or second week of October, Apple holds its traditional “music event”, exactly along the lines of the events at which they’ve been debuting new iPods for the last decade.

Apple rarely does concurrent launches, at least concurrent launches of competing mobile products. You’ll recall that Apple has launched iPod products in quick succession – they announced the new Touch, the touchscreen Nano, and the new Shuffle at the same time in 2010 – I can’t recollect a dual iPhone/iPad launch.

The iPad and the iPhone are the pride of Apple. There is no real reason to have them crowd each other, especially as we leave Back-To-School season and roll into the holidays when a new iPad may be just what Santa ordered.(source:techcrunch

5)Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Dimensions will cost at least £19.99/$28.99

by Anthony Usher

If you’re anything like me, reading that Final Fantasy Dimensions has been given a release date of August 31st will have put a rather large smile on your face.

Sit down, though, because you’re not going to be happy about the following piece of news.

Square Enix has announced that the first of Final Fantasy Dimensions’s four chapters will be available for £1.99 / $2.99, which is pretty reasonable.

Chapters two, three, and four, on the other hand, will cost £6.99. EACH. Yes, each. You can save a few pennies by downloading all four chapters in one fell swoop for £19.99 / $28.99, but, still, you can buy a human kidney for less than that. Probably.

This isn’t the first time some of us here at Pocket Gamer Towers have been shocked by the price of a new Square Enix title. Around this time last year, the PG team debated whether or not Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions’s £10.99 / $15.99 price tag is simply too high.(source:pocketgamer

6)Doodle Jump follows the way on the ninja on iPhone and iPad

by Joe Osborne

Now that we think of it, we’re kind of surprised that it’s taken this long. Lima Sky has released a big old content update to its crazy popular “endless jumper,” Doodle Jump. The developer claims that this is the largest update to be released to the game since its release on the App Store over three years ago, bringing with it a new Ninja theme, new characters and power-ups.

The new Doodle Jump allows players to dress their little leaping alien up like a ninja, a sumo wrestler, a shadow and a double jumper, which allows him to perform an extra jump mid-air. Players can use a resurrect barrel to provide them with a second chance at the high score or a head start cannon that grants them a healthy head start at the beginning of each session.

And just like that, you want to play a 3-year-old iOS game all over again. It’s crazy how that happens, isn’t it?(source:games

7)iPhone loses ground in China, marketshare halved to 10%

Emanuel Maiberg

Research firm IDC says that Apple’s smartphone share in China, its second largest market, almost halved in Q2 as local Chinese sellers like Lenovo and ZTE gained ground.

IDC Analyst T. Z. Wong said said that Apple lost marketshare because people know a new iPhone will be released soon, but also because the alternative are much more attractive than they were a year ago.

According to IDC, Lenovo took the second place, increasing its market share to 11 percent from a five to eight percent share in the first quarter when it was ranked seventh. ZTE is in third place with 10 percent and Huawei (which was recently the subject of a cover story for The Economist) was in fifth place with a 9 percent share of the market. Samsung share dropped from 21 percent to 19 percent, but still maintained its position as the No. 1 seller in China.

Overall, smartphone shipments rose to 44 million, accounting for 51 percent of China’s total mobile shipments of 87 million. This second quarter is also the first in which smartphones shipments in China overtook feature phones, so it is likely China will overtake the United States as the world’s biggest smartphone market this year.(source:insidemobileapps
