1,The day of the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) in mobile gaming has arrived. So says Spacetime Studios, a startup that is releasing Call of Champions today after more than two years of development.

Like Super Evil Megacorp’s Vainglory that preceded it, Call of Champions is a big test as to whether the lucrative MOBA category on the PC — played by more than 140 million people a month, according to market researcher Super Data — will spread to mobile, which has become one of the fastest-growing categories for games, with expected revenues of $30 billion in 2015.

As previewed earlier this year, Call of Champions is streamlined for mobile devices, with just two lanes of combat compared to five for League of Legends, the dominant MOBA on the PC. It is a free-to-play game debuting on iOS devices. The goal is to destroy the enemy’s fortress before five minutes expire.

Vainglory, one of our top 10 original games of 2014, has done a good job growing its audience in the mobile esports category. But Vainglory matches are at least 20 minutes long. By contrast, Call of Champions matches last just five minutes, said Cinco Barnes, the founder of Austin, Texas-based Spacetime, in an interview with GamesBeat at the recent Esports Conference in San Francisco.(source:venturebeat.com

2,If you like your clans clashing, then you probably play Clash of Clans [Free] and are anxiously awaiting Clashcon 2015, the first ever to be dedicated solely to that somehow-successful game. First, let’s start with this fun event for the dedicated Clash of Clans players. ClashCon 2015 will take place in Helsinki, October 24th, and will feature a live Clan Wars tournament involving the top Clashers, a panel discussion on the finer points of army composition, attack strategy workshops that teach you the fine art of attacking, plenty of 5-on-5 Clan Wars, a single player challenge that has you fighting against the Goblin horde, a workshop on building your base, and much more. It’s amazing how much this game has grown; not many games are large enough to have their own Con and be sure that plenty will turn up.

The game also got an update to balance some issues. So, here we go. Some spells, like Lightning, Poison, Earthquake, and Freeze Spells (which now also affect defending air troops), have been reworked, and a new Lightning Spell level 7 has been added that ravages both buildings and troops. Twenty-five new Wall pieces have been added, available when your Town Hall reaches level 10. Total Destruction now works as a Clan Wars tiebraker to help break score ties, and Lava Hounds can no longer target air troops. If you want to check the changes out in more detail, go here. If you are one of the brave and willing that will make the Helsinki trip for ClashCon, you can get your tickets here.(source:toucharcade.com

3,Konami appears to be losing another of its bigger name developers, as reports have surfaced that the publisher’s worldwide technology director Julilen Merceron is parting ways with the company. Gameblog reported today that Merceron’s departure was imminent, while IGN reported it had already happened.

An inquiry to Konami had not been returned as of press time.

The Gameblog report suggests that Merceron’s departure is related to the publisher’s declining interest in the console market, which is where Merceron has spent his career. Merceron joined Konami just under two years ago, assisting in development of the Fox Engine on which the company built Metal Gear Solid V and recent installments of Pro Evolution Soccer. Prior to that, he was worldwide technology director for Square Enix and held similar positions at both Eidos (before the Square Enix acquisition) and Ubisoft.

Merceron would add to a list of high-profile departures in the last two years, which have already seen Konami lose the services of Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi, Pro Evolution Soccer brand manager Jonathan Murphy, and Western-focused producer Tak Fuji. And of course, there’s still the matter of Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima, who is reportedly planning to cut ties with the publisher by year’s end and has already seen his name stripped from Metal Gear Solid marketing.(source:gamesindustry.biz
