1,Glu Mobile (NASDAQ: GLUU) has announced its FY14 Q3 financials, for the three months ending 30 September 2014.

Revenue was a record $64.8 million, up 199 percent year-on-year, or up 15 percent quarter-on-quarter.

Unsurprisingly, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood was the reason for the big increase, generating around 52 percent of revenue during the quarter.

Indeed, Q3 was the first full quarter in which the game’s sales have been recorded as it launched during the end of Q2.

Net income was $10.6 million, compared to a loss of $8 million 12 months ago and a loss of $3.9 million during FY14 Q2.

The company generated $2.5 million in terms of positive cash flow.

Strength in depth

“Glu’s third quarter was the strongest in the company’s history as non-GAAP revenue and Adjusted EBITDA set all time records,” stated CEO Niccolo de Masi.

“The record quarter was driven by the strength of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, our new releases Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores and Tap Sports: Baseball, ongoing traction with Deer Hunter 2014 and Eternity Warriors 3 and the addition of Racing Rivals to our product portfolio.”(source:pocketgamer

2,Game Connection Europe 2014 has announced the winners of its Game Connection Development Awards.

A mixed bag in terms of categories, the awards are open to console, mobile, social, casual, and online games at any stage of development with no restriction on genre, platform, or distribution method.

In terms of mobile and tablet gaming, the big winners were Danish studio Osao Games.

Its game Chronology picked up four trophies: gaining the Development Award and the European Games Booster in the Best Mobile/Tablet and Best Casual Game categories.

(The awards are structured that these two awards are given in each category, although in most cases, a single game won both.)

Doubling up

UK studio Nyamyam won the Development Award and the European Games Booster Award in the Excellence in Art category for the Japanese pop-up book-styled Tengami.

3,The Helsinki-based developer Next Games has acquired fellow Finnish startup, Helsinki GameWorks.

The deal includes all IP currently in development at Helsinki GameWorks, along with all 12 of its employees. Next Games’ headcount is now 45 people, with Helsinki GameWorks CEO Kalle Kaivola taking the role of head of licensed games.

Kaivola, who previously worked for Rovio as its SVP of product and publishing, will oversee the production of Next Games’ most high-profile project: The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land, a tie-in to the hugely popular comic book and AMC TV series.

“At Next Games we’ve focused on two key areas from the very beginning: building a robust portfolio and rock solid roadmap of games as well as ensuring we have an experienced team working on it,” said Teemu Huuhtanen, CEO of Next Games, in a statement.

“Joining forces is a logical move, as our first games will launch very soon and the next productions are being ramped up. The veteran team and IP from Helsinki GameWorks will be a huge asset.”

Next Games was founded in 2013 by a team of veterans from Rovio, Supercell and Disney. Helsinki GameWorks, on the other hand, only made an official announcement about its existence less than two months ago. Nevertheless, the Helsinki GameWorks team collaborated with Next Games on certain projects earlier this year, laying the groundwork for this acquisition.(source:gamesindustry

4,Star Wars: Galactic Defense [Free], the free-to-play Star Wars tower defense game published by DeNA, is out now. This lets players command forces on either the light or dark side of the force, getting units and heroes appropriate to each side to use in order to advance through the game. The game bears something of a resemblance to Kingdom Rush [$0.99 / $2.99 (HD)] in its path layouts and the use of three hero units that supplement the towers placed to help
repel enemy creeps that invade. Players choosing a side will help them net points for their side of the Force, with the ability to hook into Facebook to exchange resources with friends and to get help.

It will be interesting to see how this game turns out, and if it does well – Star Wars: Commander [Free] was a bit shameless in the way it took after Clash of Clans [Free], but hey, who isn’t copying that game? And tower defense is a very well-worn genre that’s hard to tackle in an original way at this point. But hey, a decent Star Wars tower defense game is not a bad proposition, and if it does well, maybe we’ll get some of those suggestions that Shaun Musgrave sarcastically pointed out in his Star Wars: Commander review. Additionally, if you want to read some forum impressions, we’ve had a thread for the game rolling since the wee hours of the morning when it first hit the App Store.(source:toucharcade
