《Disney’s Ghosts of Mistwood》

1)Bejeweled Legend: GREE Gets Exclusive, Social Version Of Bejeweled [Social Games]

by Dr. Serkan Toto

I’m a big fan of PopCap’s tile-matching puzzle game series (and money-printing machine) Bejeweled and was excited to hear today that GREE added a new version of the game to their platform.

Bejeweled Legend is an entirely new addition to the franchise, exclusively available for players with a GREE account, and Japan-/Japanese-only at this point.

What’s interesting is that this is one of the few titles that requires users to download an app (from the Japanese App Store or Google Play only): it’s not available through the much

more popular browser version of GREE.

What’s social about Bejeweled Legends?

PopCap (rightfully) decided not to alter the general gameplay but build typical social elements around it. There is actually a (rudimentary, as usual) narrative: players need to conquer “Seven Seas” throughout the game by completing missions and beating bosses – for which teaming up with other GREE users is a must. Completing missions means achieving certain targets in the puzzles.

Other elements typically found in Japanese social games that Bejeweled Legend also uses include weekly player rankings, timed events, and a game-specific virtual currency, BijiCoins.

PopCap doesn’t use gacha in the game however, and decided to go for their usual Lucky Spin mechanic to let players win virtual items instead (there are Japanese versions of Bejeweled using the gacha function out there though).

My gut feeling tells me Bejeweled Legend will work much better as a social game in Japan than Pirates or Civilization, two other foreign game franchises GREE announced yesterday: there’s simply a much clearer game-market fit here.(source:serkantoto

2)Pyramid Solitaire Saga continues King.com’s winning streak, hits 1 million DAU on Facebook

Mike Thompson

King.com and its “Saga” games are increasing their hold on the Facebook charts — the developer’s newest title, Pyramid Solitaire Saga is its fifth in a row to break the 1 million daily active user threshold.

While Pyramid Solitaire Saga isn’t the fastest  ”Saga” game to reach 1 million DAU — Candy Crush Saga reached the milestone a week faster — King.com tells us the game is its fastest-growing game among U.S. audiences. According to King.com, the game’s traffic boosters are fairly evenly divided between viral posts, cross-promotion from other King.com games and the standard Facebook marketing channels. The developer tells us viral sources are fueling the biggest chunk of Pyramid Solitaire Saga’s success, but declined to share exact numbers with us.

Player acquisition also comes from the developer’s games portal, even though King.com’s games outside of Facebook are designed to be more fast-paced  than the by the “Saga” games on the social network. King.com tells us Facebook is one of the largest acquisition channels for the  games portal; this isn’t too surprising, considering King.com’s games have regularly appeared on our Top 25 games lists ever since it debuted Bubble Saga on the social network in April 2011.

Pyramid Solitaire Saga continues to prove how successful solitaire games can be on Facebook, where three out of the top 10 card games on the platform belong to the subgenre. The game is now the No. 3 card game on Facebook, surpassed only by Zynga’s Texas HoldEm Poker and DoubleDown Interactive’s DoubleDown Casino. King.com tells us  there isn’t much of player crossover between the casino games and Pyramid Solitaire Saga, though, and it doesn’t have to worry about competing with these titles for user numbers.(source:insidesocialgames

3)E3 2012: Disney’s City Girl, Disney’s Ghosts of Mistwood, Mobster’s Criminal Empire hit Facebook this summer

by Libe Goad

Disney’s social gaming arm, Playdom, has been busy behind the scenes building, well, games that don’t necessarily involve hidden objects, but (two of which) are takeoffs of some of the company’s older social games. Today, the Mouse House announced three new games that will be out in the next few months, Disney’s City Girl, Disney’s Ghosts of Mistwood and Mobsters Criminal Empire.

Disney’s City Girl riffs off Playdom’s Sorority Life, where you play a girl who moves from a small town to the big city and makes her way to the big time. The description of the game mentions that fashion will be a part of the game, so we can only imagine what big fashion brands will make an appearance in this game over its lifespan.

Disney’s Ghosts of Mistwood is decribed as a ‘crafting game’ where players make potions and enchantments to find a lost aunt and learn more about the events surrounding her kidnapping. Sounds like a Harry Potter experience for the social gaming set. Mistwood certainly sounds different than the average Facebook social game; we’ll see if it puts us under its spell when it arrives this month.

The third game, Mobsters: Criminal Empire, is another new climb-the-crime-ladder game that’s designed to give a more in-depth game experience, and better looking graphics, than the original Mobsters. It’s amazing that people are still interested in playing these crime sim games at this point — Zynga’s Mafia Wars 2 has less than impressive player stats — but we’ll see when the game arrives on Facebook this month.

Of the three, Ghosts of Mistwood seems like the most interesting. Of course, we’re still wondering, when is Mickey going to go social? Look for more info on these games this week.(source:games

4)E3 2012: Madden NFL Social tries the play again this fall on Facebook

by Joe Osborne

EA made some edits to its social playbook, and it wants to make Madden work on Facebook. The publisher announced Madden NFL Social for Facebook, set to launch this fall along with the 2012-2013 NFL season. The game seems to take a different approach to sports gaming on the social network, as it focuses more on asynchronous play between friends and connectivity with Madden Social on iOS devices.

For instance, players go head-to-head in Madden Crossfire, a 3D, all-offense mode in which players trade off plays against one another regardless of whether they play on their iOS device or Facebook. Of course, players will get to manage their teams using a card-based system, just like in EA’s first crack at Madden on Facebook. Check out all of the details over at the official Madden NFL Social page, and we’ll likely have more come later this week when the E3 show floor opens up.(source:games
