1,Big video game publisher Electronic Arts charmed investors again as it reported third fiscal quarter earnings that beat expectations for the three months ended Dec. 31. The company’s results are widely watched as a bellwether for the $90 billion global market for all things gaming.

But for some reason, investors aren’t happy. In after-hours trading, EA’s stock fell 9 percent to $63.74 a share, down $6.06 a share.

Since Andrew Wilson took over as chief executive in September 2013, EA has been reporting good quarterly results. Redwood City, California-based EA reported third fiscal quarter earnings per share of $1.83 on revenue of $1.80 billion. Star Wars: Battlefront, which launched during the quarter, sold-in more than 13 million units to retailers (this isn’t what it sold to consumers), EA said.

Analysts had expected non-GAAP earnings of $1.81 per share on revenue of $1.81 billion in FYQ3, compared with earnings of $1.22 per share on $1.43 billion in revenue that Electronic Arts reported for the fiscal 2015 third quarter.

“This holiday season we connected millions of players through amazing games across multiple platforms,” said Wilson in a statement. “From the stunning visuals and gameplay of Star Wars Battlefront, to the anytime, anywhere competition in Madden NFL Mobile, players are deeply engaged across the increasing depth and breadth of the EA portfolio.”

“It was a great quarter with non-GAAP revenue and earnings that exceeded our guidance,” said EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen, in a statement. “Our results were driven by strong performances from Star Wars Battlefront, Need for Speed, Ultimate Team and catalog titles.”

EA said it is the No. 1 publisher on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles in the Western world for calendar year 2015 based on available sources and EA estimates.

It also said Madden NFL 16 was the No. 1 sports game in the U.S. and FIFA 16 was the No. 1 across all genres in Europe for 2015. The return of Need for Speed in the third fiscal quarter drew more than twice as many monthly active players in Q3 than the previous game.

Players also logged more than 150 million hours of gameplay across Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline in Q3. And also in Q3, Star Wars: The Old Republic — a free-to-play game — grew to its highest subscriber level in nearly three years.

Meanwhile, Madden NFL Mobile monthly active players were up nearly 50 percent year-over-year in Q3.

For the full fiscal year, EA expects non-GAAP net revenue to be $4.5 billion in the year ending March 31. It expects full-year earnings per share to be $3.04.(source:venturebeat.com

2,Next Games has raised $10 million from existing investors to fuel its existing titles and future games. The Finnish company also said that The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land, the official mobile game based on AMC’s hit TV series, has been downloaded more than 10 million times.

That latter fact is one reason why the company has been able to keep raising money. IDG Ventures and Jari Ovaskainen led the newest funding round. Other backers include AMC Networks, Lionsgate, Lowercase and IDG Capital.

The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land, which came out in October, has hit the top 100 grossing games in over 80 countries on the App Store and 70 countries on Google Play. The game is a “gripping tactical-action title,” and it continues to receive enthusiastic reviews from players. It will receive a big content update as Season 6 of the TV show returns this February.

Helsinki-based Next Games also said that its frontier adventure game, Compass Point: West, is coming to Android in March. The original game launched on iOS in March 2015.

“2015 was a banner year for Next Games. We succeeded in attracting senior international talent, growing from 45 to 70 employees, while launching two highly successful products: The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land, based on AMC’s blockbuster TV series, and Compass Point: West,“ said Teemu Huuhtanen, CEO of Next Games, in a statement. “We are thrilled to see our existing investors fully committed to supporting Next Games’ ambitious expansion plans for 2016 and beyond.”

The company was founded in 2013, and it has raised $18 million to date.

“Compass Point: West has proven that it can sustain itself and the team developing it,” said Saara Bergstrom, head of marketing at Next Games, in an email. “The game has been out on iOS thus far, and it is launching on Android this March, which brings in a whole new audience.”

She added, “It’s our very first game release and we are pleased with the game’s numbers for both retention and monetization. The ad integration has worked very well for us since we treated it as a game feature embedded in the game’s core loop rather than a separate ad display functionality. As a result, over 75 percent of Compass Point: West players opt-in to watch an ad, which is a remarkable figure.”(source:venturebeat.com

Sustained by the good performance of our game services and the regular releases of new titles, Gameloft’s annual sales figures have climbed 13 per cent in 2015.
