1,Mobile gaming has faced a plague of free-to-play junk and obnoxious in-app purchases for several years now. But we’ve had some truly fantastic iOS and Android games release in 2015 that prove that the sector isn’t all about cash-grabs.

Developers like Square Enix Montreal and Moppin show, and realize, the potential within mobile games to be just as fun and compelling as traditional home consoles and PCs. Square Enix Montreal’s Lara Croft Go, for example, is a clever and challenging turn-based puzzle game with a beautiful art style. Moppin’s Downwell is also one of the best platformers of 2015, and you can play it on your iPhone.

While we still haven’t entirely shied away from releasing and consuming lazily made iOS and Android games, it is definitely getting better every year. Whether it’s helping trees sprout flowers in Prune or solving puzzles as Lara Croft, 2015 was a great year for mobile gaming, and these are the best mobile games to show why.(source:venturebeat.com

2,Amazon said that its top video games of the holiday season were the year’s biggest blockbusters: Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Fallout 4, and Star Wars Battlefront.

The e-commerce retailer didn’t rank the games. The data came from the company’s announcement that it saw more than 3 million people sign up for its Amazon Prime premiere e-commerce service during the third week of December. Amazon shipped more than 200 million items ordered via Prime during the period.

There are now tens of millions of Prime members around the world. Amazon also said it was the biggest holiday ever for Amazon devices, with purchases up two times from a year ago. The company also mentioned that Amazon customers purchased enough Anki Overdrive Starter Kits this holiday season to wrap around the Daytona International Speedway more than 10 times. The Anki Overdrive car racing kits are a hybrid toy-game product.

Amazon also said, “If every Just Dance 2016 video game purchased by Amazon.com customers this holiday season was played to completion by one person, he or she would be dancing until 2081.”(source:venturebeat.com

3,The Katamari franchise is one of gaming’s quirkiest bits of smile fuel, and it’s been around for more than a decade now. The first release, 2004’s Katamari Damacy, was a charming, roll-away hit. The game centered on a rolling ball that gradually grew larger as it accumulated objects of greater sizes. Katamari Damacy won plenty of awards, was exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and cemented the franchise in the hearts of gamers all around the world.

Bandai Namco have long been portable-friendly with the Katamari games. They first debuted Me and My Katamari on the original PSP in 2006, and then a year later Katamari Damacy Mobile released for mobile phones in the pre-smartphone era. Since then we’ve seen Rolling With Katamari, I Love Katamari, and Katamari Amore released for mobile devices amid a smattering of console and handheld releases.

Tap My Katamari is shaping up to be the franchise’s latest mobile game, and it’s changing things up a bit to fit with some current mobile gaming trends. The biggest change is the gameplay is transitioning from a 3D roll-around game to a 2D clicker game where players tap-tap-tap their touchscreen to keep their katamari going (and growing).

The teaser trailer promises that Tap My Katamari is “coming soon” for Android and iOS devices.(source:gamezebo.com

4,Well, it was another banner year in the world of iOS gaming, with so many great games released in 2015 that it made our head spin trying to whittle it down to the list you see before you. When it came to our Game of the Year pick, it really came down to the nitty gritty between two particular titles. In the end, one just barely inched out the other for reasons we’ll get to in a second. Following the Game of the Year and Runner Up picks are 25 of what we feel were the best games of 2015. Of course this list doesn’t include many other great games that came out this year, and to be honest it could have easily been three or four times the size. However, we thought this was a nice cross selection of genres and truly the best of the best of this year. If a game you adored this year isn’t featured here, feel free to list it in the comments below, we love hearing about what games people enjoy playing on their iOS devices.

It seems like the best mobile games latch onto a simple mechanic that feels natural on a touchscreen device and then builds an entire game around it. Slicing fruit in Fruit Ninja, drawing lines in Flight Control, even tilting back and forth in Doodle Jump are all great examples of this. Those simple actions spawned countless copycats and even entire genres in the mobile space over the years, but it’s rare that a game can come along and create a mobile game that feels truly unique and native to the platform.
In 2015, I don’t think any game accomplished that goal as well as Land Sliders, the first game from Australian developer Prettygreat, did. Land Sliders is a game that’s built around inertial scrolling. What is inertial scrolling? Well, when you’re scrolling through a list on your iOS device, say your list of emails or a list of songs in the Music app, inertial scrolling is the thing that allows you to scroll fast with a quick swipe and the screen will gradually slow down as it runs out of inertia.
It sounds like an incredibly boring concept for a game, but inertial scrolling is something that iOS devices have nailed since the beginning, and I believe it’s one of the things that truly put the iPhone ahead of the pack in the early days of smartphones. Early iPhone rivals had pretty janky touchscreens which didn’t have the smoothness of an iPhone. Scrolling around on iOS devices is fun and satisfying. Flicking a swipe fast and knowing you can stop the screen from scrolling on a dime if you want. It’s really cool.
It’s not a bad idea to try and capture that feeling and create a game around it, but how exactly does that work? I saw a very early prototype of Land Sliders at GDC this year and thought it was a clever concept and the sliding around the world felt great. But honestly I had no idea how they would craft a compelling game around it, and figured it would end up as one of those “hmmm, that’s neat!” tech demo type of games and be fun for a few days before being forgotten.
That ended up not being the case at all, and besides its unique concept, I think that’s shows the brilliance of Prettygreat. Not only have they created a full-fledged high-scoring game with endlessly replayable randomly-generated levels and a wide cast of neat characters to unlock, but they’ve created this is a way that’s easy to add on to, and given the popularity of Land Sliders this seems like the kind of game that can continue living on for years and years with a constant flow of new content.(source:toucharcade.com
