zynga-facebook(from techinsidr.com)

修订后的协议还指出,任何发布于Zynga.com的游戏一般也都能进驻Facebook(游戏邦注:但如果游戏仅限运行于移动平台,或者中国等Facebook服务不支持的地区则另当别论);如果Facebook向真钱赌博游戏开放服务,那么Zynga.com也将在之后推出这类游戏。

1)Habbo set to launch its own social games platform

By Mike Rose

Following a child safety scandal at online chat service Habbo, developer Sulake is now looking to reel users back in with the upcoming launch of a new game platform within the website.

An investigation into safety concerns at the children’s gaming and chat website caused investors and retailers to jump ship earlier this year, and Sulake says that it lost over half of its monthly active users as a result, down from 9 million to 4 million.

The new Habbo APIs will allow developers to publish games via the Habbo website, ready for the chat website’s millions of users to try their hand at. A new games center option is set to be added to the site’s main menu, giving visitors direct access to the library.

Initially promotion for games will be free through the website, and in-app monetization and advertising will be possible. However, as the website is aimed at young children, there are strict content guidelines that must be following, including no violence, nudity, drugs, racism, bad language, and political and religious content.

Antti Viitanen, Sulake EVP, explained to TechCrunch, “We have been thrilled to work with such a great bunch of talented game studios. Habbo offers developers globally a great opportunity to create games for the huge Habbo user base, especially now, when the platform isn’t yet crowded with games.”

2)Irish design consultant Tadhg Kelly joins U.S. startup

By Frank Cifaldi

Britain-based game design consultant (and frequent Gamasutra contributor) Tadhg Kelly is making a move to the United States to take on the role of creative director at a Seattle-based startup.

Kelly’s new home, Jawfish Games, specializes in tournament-based real-time multiplayer social games. The company tells us that its core focus is on creating quick-play tournaments that last “four or five minutes” on average.

Jawfish is hoping to spark a new interest in the casual and social space for multiplayer games, with its website saying that traditional leaderboards “are boring and downright meaningless.”

The company has a word game on Facebook already, and will launch tournament-based casino games next year (note: Jawfish CEO Phil Gordon is a professional poker player).

Tadhg Kelly has been working in games for twenty years, first in the table-top and live-action role-playing spaces and then in video games. His credits include Lionhead’s The Movies, among others.(source:gamasutra

3)Agreeing to see other people — Zynga.com ending Facebook payments, ads in March

AJ Glasser

Zynga.com is no longer an extension of the Facebook platform, according to an SEC document filed today.

Originally, Zynga’s games platform featured an extremely deep integration with the Facebook platform that appeared to be born of the developer’s privileged relationship with Facebook.

Zynga.com previously supported Facebook ads and Facebook payments in a deal unlike anything any other developer had enjoyed. As of March 2013, however, Zynga is relegated to using the standard terms of service that every other developer agrees to when integrating Facebook with their own sites.

Here are the cons: Zynga is losing some (but not all) of its exclusivity with Facebook. As the developer struggles with falling stock prices and decreasing returns on investment in blockbuster social games, losing some protection from Facebook might cause stock to dip even lower. Zynga closed today at $2.62 and is now at $2.35 in after-hours trading.

Effective on March 31, 2013, Facebook will no longer guarantee Zynga certain web or mobile growth targets in exchange for continuing to invest in games on the platform.

Also with the new agreement, Facebook will no longer be prohibited from developing its own games, however, it’s unlikely that the social network would get into the game development business any time in the near future. The company has generally taken the position of being a platform rather than producing its own content.

“We’re not in the business of building games and we have no plans to do so,” a Facebook spokesperson said. “We’re focused on being the platform where games and apps are built.”

Here are the pros: Zynga can now feature, cross-promote and launch just about whatever game it wants on Zynga.com — even real money gambling games. Third-party games no longer need to be available on Facebook before hitting Zynga.com and Zynga can redirect players to mobile titles at its own discretion. Even better, Facebook’s standard terms of service allow Zynga to use Facebook data collected from mobile titles (e.g. email addresses), so it’s not as though Zynga is cut off from Facebook, even if it is less privileged than it was a year ago.

The amendment is also careful to state that any games launched on Zynga.com will “generally” be available on Facebook, though not in cases where the game is mobile-only or available in regions where Facebook isn’t allowed (China). If Facebook opens up its platform to real money gambling, Zynga plans to launch its real money games on the platform after the fact.

Additionally, if Zynga buys any social game that was on Zynga.com but not on Facebook prior to the buy, Zynga plans to bring the game to Facebook after closing the acquisition.

Facebook provided the following statement in response to Zynga’s updated SEC filing:

“We have streamlined our terms with Zynga so that Zynga.com’s use of Facebook Platform is governed by the same policies as the rest of the ecosystem. We will continue to work with Zynga, just as we do with developers of all sizes, to build great experiences for people playing social games through Facebook.”

Zynga chief revenue officer Barry Cottle made the following statement:

“Zynga’s mission is to connect the world through games. In order to do this, Zynga is focused on building enduring relationships with consumers across all platforms from Facebook and Zynga.com on the web to tablets and mobile.  Our amended agreement with Facebook continues our long and successful partnership while also allowing us the flexibility to ensure the universal availability of our products and services.”(source:insidesocialgames

4)Good Move: LINE Starts Integrating With Facebook

by Dr. Serkan Toto

Japanese chat app sensation LINE (75 million users and counting) has done the inevitable: it started integrating with Facebook.

Maker NHN Japan says that while the Facebook connection went live on Android first, LINE users on iOS can expect the same feature in the near future.

The main bullet points here are that existing Facebook users can create LINE accounts with their FB credentials (no phone number needed) and that LINE users can now invite Facebook friends to become contacts directly from within the app.

NHN Japan also says that even if two users are already friends on LINE, connecting via Facebook accounts is possible, too.

5)Kongregate adds free-to-play downloadable games to its portal

By Mike Rose

Online game portal Kongregate has expanded beyond the confines of the web browser, today announcing the launch of a free-to-play downloadable games section on its website.

The GameStop-owned company is now providing interested parties with the tools to enable promotion and monetization of digital titles via the portal, and downloadable titles can be integrated with Kongregate’s social elements.

Kongregate also says that it will work closely with developers who choose to launch their downloadable games via the 15 million unique monthly visitors-strong portal, offering hands-on game mechanics consulting and ideas for how best to apply monetization.

The first bunch of titles to take advantage of the new platform are Super Monday Night Combat from Uber Entertainment, Smashmuck Champions from Kiz Studios, and Bomb Buddies from Balanced Worlds.

“Adding downloadable titles brings a new level of gaming to core players looking for high-definition graphics with more options and content to select from,” noted Kongregate co-founder Jim Greer.

Any virtual goods sold are split 70 percent to developers, 30 percent Kongregate, of the gross revenue generated. (source:gamasutra
