1)Zynga Continues Social Mobile Push With CityVille Hometown

by Frank Cifaldi

Social game giant Zynga is continuing its push into the social mobile field with CityVille Hometown, a spinoff of its popular Facebook urban simulation CityVille available soon for iOS.

According to Zynga, CityVille Hometown players will “create a bustling town, invite friends and in-game characters to be neighbors, and build out their communities.”

The game will also interface with the original CityVille on Facebook to “swap resources and energy and spend and receive special limited edition items if they prove to be exemplary citizens,” says Zynga.

This is the second new mobile game from Zynga this month: Hanging With Friends launched last week, and is among the top grossing apps currently.

Other popular social mobile games from Zynga include Words With Friends, Zynga Poker, and the portable version of its popular FarmVille.

A Canadian release of CityVille Hometown is expected soon, with a global rollout that includes French, Italian, German and Spanish translations expected in the coming weeks.(source:gamasutra)

2)Facebook Adds Alternative Payment Options for Facebook Credits in 13 Countries

By AJ Glasser

Facebook is announcing alternative payment options for developers located 13 countries in Asia and Latin America looking to implement Facebook Credits. These payment options, supported by Live Gamer, will be added to Facebook’s existing Facebook Credit payments options starting July 1.

Facebook also says that it now supports payouts to developers in virtually all countries not hindered by government embargoes, even if a country can’t receive payouts from PayPal or specific banks. To get around this complication, the social network crafted a new pay out process that goes through local bank accounts.

Facebook says that developers in specific countries may need to provide additional documentation to receive payouts through local banks, such as tax identification numbers (full list here).

Payout is the means by which a developer converts in-app currency exchanges to real money that the developer can then deposit into its bank accounts. Facebook Credits payouts occur twice monthly. A list of current Facebook Credit payment options is right here.(source:insidesocialgames)

3)REPORT: Men Talk About Facebook Less Often

by Jackie Cohen

In the U.S., men are talking about Facebook less than they did six months ago. The same goes for all adults between the ages of 18 and 49.

Women continue to talk about Facebook to the same extent they did in January, as have both genders over age 50.

These assessments of U.S. perceptions are the work of YouGov BrandIndex, which uses what the consultancy calls a buzz score.

YouGov BrandIndex’s Ted Marzilli believes that this decline in talk about Facebook could impact the social network’s plans to sell stock to the public, assuming that ever happens.

4)Claritics offers new “social intelligence” analytics tools

Dean Takahashi

Claritics, a maker of social analytics tools, is launching a limited beta version of its suite of tools that can help social game and app developers analyze their data and reap more money from their efforts.

Mountain View, Calif.-based Claritics calls its work “social intelligence.” Claritics has been testing its cloud-based analytics with partners that range from game companies to utilities and media companies. It’s all about getting enough data and organizing it in a way that it becomes “actionable.”

The company recently raised $1.5 million from Cervin Ventures and TiE Angels. Raj Pai is the chief executive. The company will use the money to expand its sales and marketing and to improve its product.

The company’s analytics are designed to allow developers to optimize their reach, retain users, and launch revenue campaigns on the fly, all based on user behavior. The data become useful not just for looking back but for predicting the future, Pai said. The company offers metrics and other data on a real-time basis.

Claritics’ platform has been in private beta testing with a number of media, Facebook app, and game companies — including Grab Games, ChaYoWo Games and Hallmark’s Social Calendar. The company was founded in 2010 and has 10 to 15 employees. Claritics offers its analytics as a software-as-a-service platform targeted at marketers, app developers and game designers. Under the Claritics Social Intelligence beta program, developers can analyze up to 100,000 users free of charge.

An example of Claritics’ value is that it lets developers segment their users into small groups, or cohorts, and analyze the behavior related to movement, game sessions, viral activity and monetization. Eric Pei, co-founder of Facebook game maker Galatea Systems, said the Claritics suite has been valuable in helping the company get the most out of its analytics information.(source:venturebeat)

5)Tetris Battle Reimagines Puzzle Classic with Quick-Fire Multiplayer Action

By Pete Davison

Tetris Battle is an officially-licensed multiplayer version of the popular puzzle game for Facebook. The game is produced by Tetris Online, Inc, which was co-founded by Tetris creator

Alexey Pajitnov. Tetris Battle launched in June 2010 and, thanks in part to the company kicking off a more aggressive customer acquisition strategy in recent months, it’s recently made several appearances on our top 20 lists of fastest-growing Facebook games both by monthly and daily active users.

According to our traffic tracking service AppData, Tetris Battle currently has 3.2 million monthly active users and 819,852 daily active users.

The game is monetized through energy refills and premium item sales. Energy is spent on playing matches, while premium items allow players to customize the look and feel of their game.

Players can also upgrade their gameplay and interface experience by increasing the speed at which lines clear and pieces move. Many upgrades and items can be purchased using the game’s standard currency of Tetris Coins, but some must be unlocked and some must be purchased using the premium currency, Tetris Cash, which can be bought with Facebook Credits. The game also has some display advertising and occasional sponsorship deals — Old Navy being the most recent — but advertising is a secondary revenue stream.

The company is also working on a number of non-Tetris products, with match-4 puzzle title Feevo launching on Facebook and iPad recently. Tetris Battle remains one of the company’s core products, however.(source:insidesocialgames

6)Strategy and Card Games Top This Week’s List of Fastest-Growing Facebook Games by DAU

By AJ Glasser

Newly-released strategy games Empires & Allies and Army Attack are kept apart by Turkish rummy-style card game Mynet Çanak Okey while Kabam’s Global Warfare creeps up behind them on this week’s list of fastest-growing Facebook games by daily active users as tracked by AppData.

This week, we see Zoo World getting a bump to both DAU and monthly active users as developer/publisher RockYou appears to be using the app as a gateway to its sequel, Zoo World 2, which launched yesterday. It’s not clear at this time if RockYou has actually cannibalized the old app ID for the new game; the original Zoo World is apparently still available to both existing and new users. We’ll have early impressions of Zoo World 2 later this week.(source:insidesocialgames
