1,Mabinogi is a popular “fantasy life” RPG from Nexon that lets you create an avatar and indulge in merriment and frolic. It’s free and it’s browser-based, which makes it accessible.

Currently, The only thing more popular than fleeing reality via the Internet (perhaps after dyeing your hair an outlandish anime color) is card-battling games in the vein of Blizzard’s Hearthstone. So it’s logical that Nexon would develop Mabinogi Duel, a tactical card game based around the Mabinogi universe.

Mabinogi Duel lets you trade cards with pals, each of which is adorned with some very pretty artwork. Gazing at the nice pictures ultimately won’t slaughter your enemies, however. You need to use those cards in matches against rivals, both in the single-player campaign mode and in multiplayer PvP matches. To the victor goes more cool cards.

Mabinogi Duel is free, and it recently soft-launched in several countries, including Canada. If you’d like to get in early on some card-trading but you don’t live in the frigid North, here’s how to get a Canadian iTunes account.(source:gamezebo.com

2,It’s been a busy week for Halfbrick, with the studio first shedding headcount, and now adding to it. The Fruit Ninja developer has introduced Nicholas Cornelius as its new chief marketing officer.

Cornelius joins Halfbrick after a four-year stint with Electronic Arts Australia as a marketing manager for Asia Pacific, Japan, and the Middle East. Prior to that, he worked at Microsoft Australia as a digital content manager and technical lead. He is taking over for Phil Larsen, who left the studio in January in order to co-found Prettygreat along with two other ex-Halfbrick executives.

Cornelius joins Halfbrick at a tumultuous time, as Monday reports revealed that the studio had laid off both of its dedicated designers. Halfbrick CEO Shainiel Deo said the elimination of those positions “will empower everyone in our teams to contribute to design rather than concentrate design control in the hands of a few.”(source:gamesindustry.biz

3,Today Ubisoft shared a very specific piece of good news about Grow Home, namely that it was the fastest-downloaded Ubisoft game on PlayStation to date.

When it was offered free to PlayStation Plus members as part of the Instant Game Collection over 2 million copies were downloaded in the first week.

“We are thrilled that BUD has found a new home in the PS4 community,” said Ubisoft Reflections producer Pete Young

“Grow Home was a great opportunity for our team to experiment and develop new technology and have fun at the same time.”

When GamesIndustry.biz spoke to Alain Corre at E3 this year he referenced the game as an example of the publisher’s commitment to creativity.

“Recently we released Grow Home which is an ecological PC game coming from our studio in Newcastle who do racing games, and one day a guy came and said I have this idea and I want to try that and we said OK.

“And when he came with the game it was something completely different to what we are used to publish and we said OK let’s try it and see how it goes. In fact we had a lot of good attention from the community with this one, like we had last year with Child Of Light or with Valiant Hearts.”(source:gamesindustry.biz

4,Sometimes, I want to play games that get my brain racing and my fingers tapping like an over-excited tap dancer. Other times, I enjoy a serene gaming experience, and Triada Studio Games’ Shadowmatic [Free] is a great specimen of the kind of games that you play to relax. If you enjoy these type of games too, then you’ll be happy to hear that Shadowmatic has gone free for the first time. If you haven’t played or seen Shadowmatic, you are in for a (at the very least) visual treat as the game’s gorgeous. The purpose of the game is to rotate a physical object in 3D space in an attempt to make the shadow it casts look like a familiar object. If you’ve ever used your hands and fingers to cast the shadow of a barking dog on a wall, then you know how this game plays out.

The game’s wonderful visuals haven’t gone unnoticed as the game won the 2015 Apple Design Award. In addition to the captivating visuals – perfect for showing off your mobile device to those unlucky souls who don’t play mobile games – Shadowmatic’s touch controls shine in their simplicity and tactility. Additionally, the game plays on both the iPhone and iPad and there’s iCloud saving, always a plus in my book. So, if you enjoy serenity and simply but beautiful games, go get Shadowmatic while it’s free.(source:toucharcade.com
