1,Mobile publisher Rovio released Angry Birds Stella Pop today for iOS devices. Pop is a new entry in the Angry Birds: Stella brand, a spinoff of the original Angry Birds franchise that is targeted toward female players.

Stella Pop is what Rovio calls a “bubble shooter,” but it’s really another tile-matching puzzle game. As you can see with the screenshot to the right, it looks an awful lot like the classic puzzle series Bust-a-Move.

“Stella’s crew and the rest of the Angry Birds have always appealed to a broad mix of gamers, and this latest quest invites fans of casual and challenging puzzles alike to enjoy the wild and quirky Angry Birds Stella in a new light,” Blanca Juti, chief brand officer at Rovio, said in a press release sent to GamesBeat.

The Angry Birds franchise is on a downward trend, so it could really use a new hit right now. Then Rovio can enjoy a bigger piece of a mobile industry that has grown to $30 billion, with revenues expected to exceed the console industry’s this year, according to market researcher Newzoo.(source:venturebeat

2,App Annie is moving closer to the rapidly growing mobile markets in Southeast Asia and India with a new office in Singapore.

While the new office will also cover Australia and New Zealand, its principal focus will be Southeast Asia and India, two of the fastest growing markets for mobile gaming on the planet. According to App Annie’s data – as reported by Tech In Asia – India is already the world’s fifth largest market in terms of mobile downloads

“Those two markets are relatively untapped compared to other markets,” said Oliver Lo, App Annie’s EVP of marketing. “We see a lot of big companies going into these regions and we see a lot of startups getting big funding rounds. So all those companies need data.”

App Annie Singapore will be fully operational in April this year, with an initial staff of 10 people. And we’re likely to see a great deal more movement from the analytics firm this year, following a bumper 12 months in terms of both performance and funding. In May 2014, it raised $17 million and acquired Distimo.
In January this year, it raised an additional $55 million.

The company now employs more than 300 people, twice as many as a year ago. It expects to add a further 150 people in 2015.(source:gamesindustry.biz

3,Moonfrog Labs, a Bangalore-based games studio, has just completed a Series A round valued at $15 million.

Tiger Global and Sequoia Capital funded the investment, building on their previous seed capital investment of $1 million in Moonfrog Labs back in 2014.

The company was founded by Zynga veterans Tanay Tayal, Ankit Jain, Kumar Puspesh, Oliver Jones, and Dimpalkumar Maisuriya in October 2013.

Their joint portfolio includes games such as Empires & Allies, Mafia Wars, and CastleVille.

Target market

“Over the last few years, the large presence of international companies in India like Zynga, Gameloft, and EA amongst others has helped build an ecosystem where developers are learning to build high production quality games,” Moonfrog Labs’ co-founder and director Oliver Jones told PocketGamer.biz.(source: pocketgamer.biz

4,Urban sim Cities: Skylines has sold 250,000 copies, including pre-orders, in its first 24 hours on sale. The release sets new records for publisher Paradox Interactive.

“We would like to offer our deepest and heartfelt thanks to the community for their passionate support and to let them know that we are committed to supporting this wonderful game for years to come, in the same way that we have for our Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis communities,” said Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester.

“Our congratulations and thanks must also go to developer Colossal Order for making what is being widely described as the new benchmark of the city building genre. We have forged a strong partnership with them over a number of years through the release of Cities in Motion and Cities in Motion 2, and I am happy to see such a talented team now being widely applauded for their unmatched passion and skill.”

The game was released digitally on March 10 and received high marks from critics, currently holding a Metacritic score of 89.(source:gamesindustry.biz
