3)迪士尼Playdom最近将热门Facebook游戏《Gardens of Time》引进iPad平台,支持玩家通过OpenFeint、Game Center和Facebook功能与好友互动。

1)Distimo Blog← App Store Rewind 2011, is Your App Listed?Quora Answering Series: Download Volume Needed To Hit The Top ChartsTweet Posted on December 12, 2011 by Gert Jan Spriensma

We noticed that many developers turn to Quora to validate mobile business plans, estimate market sizes or plan promotions more efficiently. At Distimo we gather a lot of data that is relevant to those developers. Therefore we decided to start tracking Quora and answer those questions for which we have data that we can share. This post is the first in the series and details what number of downloads an application needs to hit the top charts on a typical day.

We hope to answer the following questions on Quora:

•How many downloads/day are needed to get into the top 25 of the app store?

•How many downloads do some of the Top 50 free iPhone apps get per day?

•In the Germany iPhone app market, how many downloads/day does one need to generate to become a Top 10 free app?

•How many downloads per day does one need to be a Top 10 Free iPhone app?

Of course the number of downloads required to enter the top overall 10, 25 or 50 differs per country. However, there are also differences per day. Therefore in this post we will start with data from the 10 largest iPhone countries in terms of free downloads and conclude with the distribution of downloads per weekday. Please note that all numbers in this post are based on November 2011 data.

The 10 largest countries in terms of download volume among the top 300 most popular free applications in the Apple App Store for iPhone are; Australia, Canada, China, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, South Korea, United Kingdom and United States. Those are represented in the worldmap below. When hovering over one of those countries, the average daily volume you would need to enter the top 10, 25 and 50 in that country will appear below the world-map. Moreover, the gradient in the worldmap indicates the relative volume in the top 300 free, compared to the other countries.

Of all downloads in the top 300 most popular free applications in a typical week, we see that aggregated over the 10 countries the daily proportions are as follows; Monday (14%), Tuesday (13%), Wednesday (13%), Thursday (13%), Friday (14%), Saturday (16%), Sunday (17%). Hence to get into the top requires less downloads on a weekday compared to the weekend days.(source:distimo

2)Rovio teams up with Lappset as Angry Birds set to take over playgrounds

by Matt Sakuraoka-Gilman

It’s not yet the Disney-sized theme park that one might expect – given past comparisons between Rovio and the famed American animation studio – but a new partnership between the Angry Birds developer Rovio and playground equipment manufacturer Lappset has signaled the next step up from plush toys and lunch boxes.

The Angry Birds, along with their pig arch nemeses will feature on a variety of playground equipment, due to appear in Finnish parks sometime in Q1 2012.

The new parks will also feature in-game features to bring the physical and virtual worlds together.

Park life

Rather than go down the theme park route, Rovio CMO Peter Vesterbacka believes that these playground activity sets will promote a more interactive version of the Angry Birds franchise, preferable to making kids wait a hour for a two minute ride.

That’s not to say that Rovio isn’t aiming just as high as the Burbank-based conglomerate.

Vesterbacka has said that, while currently valued at $2.5 billion, the heady target is to reach the $60 billion valuation of Disney within the next 5-10 years.

The game itself has recently celebrated its two year anniversary having also surpassed the 600 million download mark.(source:pocketgamer

3)Disney’s Playdom launches social game Gardens of Time on iPad

Dean Takahashi

Gardens of Time, the most successful Facebook game created by Disney’s Playdom, is launching today on the iPad.

The launch is a major one for Playdom, since the Palo Alto, Calif.-based division wants to replicated the success of the social game on mobile platforms, which are expected to be a significant avenue of growth for social games. The game has been successful because it was the first major “hidden object” game on Facebook. In such games, which are popular on casual game web sites, players search for objects in a scene.

The game launched in April on Facebook and it became one of the most popular titles on the social network. More than 5 billion hidden object game sessions have been played to date, and the game hit a peak of 17 million monthly active users and 4 million daily active users. The game now has 9.1 million MAUs and 2.1 million DAUs, but it is still Playdom’s most popular game on Facebook by far.

The iPad version of the game is integrated with OpenFeint, Game Center, and Facebook. That means that the developers have tried to make the game as social as possible, so that the title can spread in a more viral fashion.

In Gardens of Time, players join the Time Society, an elite group of time-traveling detectives. They explore vibrant hidden object scenes throughout history to guard the secrets of time travel and preserve history’s flow. As players find objects, they earn coins, the games currency, and collect ancient artifacts to personalize a garden that you can show off. As your garden grows, so does your reputation and you can unlock more travel spots.

The game is social because you can interact with other players, challenging them to high scores where you find objects on a time limit. You can send gifts and visit neighbors and compete in a “best garden” contest. John Spinale, senior vice president of social games at the Disney Interactive Media Group, said that Gardens of Time is perfectly suited for the tablet experience and the company sees a chance to engage with millions of players on the go on the new platform.(source:venturebeat

4)Apple’s Mac App Store reaches 100 million download milestone

by Matt Sakuraoka-Gilman

In less than 12 months, the Mac App Store has handled 100 million downloads, a feat which Apple sees as evidence that it’s changing the nature of the PC gaming industry.

“In just three years the App Store changed how people get mobile apps, and now the Mac App Store is changing the traditional PC software industry,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

“With more than 100 million downloads in less than a year, the Mac App Store is the largest and fastest growing PC software store in the world.”

Mobile’s where it’s at

Mobile apps are clearly still where the largest number of downloads are happening, however.

The App Store as a whole has managed to pick up 18 billion app downloads overall, with over 1 billion apps being downloaded monthly.

In comparison the Android Market has just reached a total figure of 10 billion downloads, a feat which took the Google-owned format just over three years to accomplish.(source:pocketgamer

5)Apple devices winning big in the Middle East and North Africa

By Darrell Etherington

Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod touch are huge in the Middle East and North Africa, where they account for 55 percent of mobile internet traffic, according to a new survey by Dubai-based Effective Measure. The iPhone and iPad in particular are doing well, splitting top device honors among the countries covered in the study.

During the month of October, Apple iPhone accounted for 29.6 percent of traffic from mobile devices, with the iPad accounting for 24.1 percent. The iPod touch added another 2 percent to the total for Apple devices. Apple’s iPhone was the most popular device overall, and the iPad second. RIM’s BlackBerry devices came in third with 7.6 percent combined.

Broken down by country, Apple’s lead is even stronger in some places. In Saudi Arabia, for instance, 64.5 percent of mobile internet traffic occurred on Apple devices, with the iPhone accounting for 34.3 percent. In Egypt, Jordan and the UAE, the iPad was the most popular device overall, accounting for 28.7, 24.7 and 18.8 percent of mobile traffic respectively.

Effective Measure’s measured audience for the Middle East North Africa region is 43.7 million spread across sixteen countries. For Apple to own such an impressive share of the market in an area where BlackBerry has traditionally been in high demand is an impressive achievement.(source:gigaom

6)Android Market’s web store gets updated with new user review filters

by Matt Sakuraoka-Gilman

Google has put out an update for its Android Market web store, including a glut of new user review filtering features.

The new filtering system allows users to pick and choose parameters regarding user reviews, such as specific star ratings, app versions and device model.

Isolation

One particular highlight of the new features is that they can be used in tandem, meaning users can isolate apps which meet specific requirements.

For example a user might want to isolate all apps which picked up 5 star reviews on a particular device model, or a particular version of the OS.(source:pocketgamer

7)Breaking Down the Most Used Android Apps by Age Demographic

By Dan Rowinski

When you really boil it down, which apps that you’ve downloaded from the Android Market do you actually use? According to new numbers from Nielsen, outside of the Market itself, Facebook is the next used app across age groups on Android. Four out of every five people use Facebook for Android, outdistancing Google’s own apps and just about every other app on the platform.

That comes as no surprise. Facebook is the most popular app of all time, with 350 million people accessing the social network from mobile devices. Across the age demographics surveyed by Nielsen, Google properties took the next four spots. After that, the list gets interesting, with media apps more popular for younger segments and productivity apps prevalent for older Android users.

In the 25-34 and 35-44 age groups, Gmail was the third most used app with 80% and 77% respectively. Gmail is used by 70% of the 18-24 age bracket, with Google search taking the third spot at 77%. YouTube took the sixth spot in each demographic but young users are 13% more likely to access the video network from Android devices than the oldest demographic in the study.

Pandora Radio, Words With Friends and Angry Birds all made the list, with Pandora use higher in the youngest demographic and Angry Birds taking the seventh spot for the two older segments. QuickOffice ranked higher for the older users.

Take a look at the chart below. It is interesting to note how the 25-34 demographic is a bridge between the 18-24 and 35-44 groups. Pandora might be the best example, with less older users streaming music than the younger two but QuickOffice ranking higher.

There is one common denominator with all of these apps, as the same apps show up on each list. Most of them are featured heavily in the Android Market (except, of course, the Amazon Appstore). The fact of the matter is that the top 50 or so apps on the Android Market make up for the lion’s share of app usage. Nielsen released a study in August that shows that the top 50 apps make up 61% of usage. The top 10 make up 43% of usage.

The top apps also go to show that the battle to come for the time and attention of users. Facebook and Google are enemies after the same targets, with both companies focused on grabbing eyeballs to sell advertising against. This battle has been evolving on the Web for the last several years. The next several years will find the search giant and the social network taking the war to users’ pockets.

Unlike heavy Android users, most people do not have dozens of apps on their smartphones. What apps are missing from this list that most techies would think should make it? Spotify? Pulse? Netflix? Let us know what are your most used apps in the comments. (source:readwriteweb
