1)Document shows Zynga may be raising $500M round

A new document shows that Zynga is raising a new round of funding up to $490 million, according to Inside Social Games.

The filing shows that Zynga, the largest social gaming firm on Facebook, has authorized a new series of Series C preferred shares as of early March, according to financial analysis firm VC Experts.

In February, published reports suggested that Zynga was raising a round of $500 million at a valuation of $10 billion. But the round was never announced. The filing shows that the deal may still be in the works or has already been completed. VC Experts calculated that the post-investment value of Zynga after the new round could be $9.1 billion, assuming that all authorized shares have been issued.

AllThingsD previously said that Morgan Stanley, T. Rowe Price, Fidelity Investments, venture firm Kleiner Perkins were participants, while the New York Times said in April that T.Rowe Price now owns $71.8 million in stock. The murky thing about the filing is that Zynga doesn’t have to file these documents on a timely basis and they are somewhat vague as well.(source:venturebeat

2)TeePee Games partners with Predictive Intent to launch Geronimo discovery platform

Digital game discovery has been at the heart of TeePee Games ever since founder and CEO Tony Pearce set up the venture last November.

Now, in conjunction with behavioural analysis specialist Predictive Intent, the company is set to launch Geronimo – a new discovery engine aimed at Android, Facebook, and other web portals.

The art of prediction

Built from the ground up, Geronimo has been designed to serve TeePee Games users with game recommendations, with the platform drawing its suggestions from data based on their behaviour and stated interests.

The company claims Predictive Intent has employed ‘heavy mathematics’ to provide behavioural analysis and profiling that allows a user’s respective desires to be tracked.

The results are then combined with TeePee Games’ own database of raw inputs from each member to serve up recommendations that are tailored to appeal directly to the user in question.

Power for the portal

“The complexity of its [Geronimo's] inputs and the speed at which it can provide results to large numbers of concurrent users really shows what a ‘best of breed’ discovery engine should be capable of and as such, we’re hugely proud that Geronimo is the beating heart and the nerve centre of the TeePee Games experience,” said Pearce.

“Our objective is to provide gamers with content recommendations tailored to their interests and to help great games gain prominence. Only something as cutting-edge and sophisticated as Geronimo could achieve this at the scales we need for TeePee Games.

“The fact that it’s also incredibly easy for us to tweak and configure, thanks to Predictive Intent’s transparency and emphasis on proving the very best solutions for consumer and client alike.”

Sporting 300 Facebook games, 100 on Android and 2,500 Flash-based titles, TeePee Games itself is currently in open beta, but will to launch in the coming weeks.(source:pocketgamer

3)Zynga Co-Founder Blooked from Selling His $12 Million — After leaving Zynga last year, co-founder Andrew Trader has recently attempted to sell his $12 million share to Alpha Investment. Zynga, however, has blocked the sale stating that “former employees” can only sell stock 180 days after Zynga’s IPO, says Mercury News. Alpha Investment has since filed a lawsuit against Zynga in a Delaware court.(source:insidesocialgames

4)New Social Game Company: Bossa Studios — A new London-based social gaming startup by the name of Bossa Studios launched last week at The Next Web Conference Startup Rally. The company is hoping to have its first title release within the next few months, starting with Facebook and following with Orkut, iOS, and Android. The company’s focus is to make games similar to those that current gamers grew up with. (source:insidesocialgames

5)NBA Dynasty No “Rival” to NBA Legend, Despite Shared License

Playdom’s NBA Dynasty basketball simulation game is one of two officially licensed NBA Facebook games alongside Lionside’s NBA Legend, which launched in February. Despite the common ground, Playdom doesn’t see the games are rivals because of the different approaches to gameplay.

According to metrics on AppData, NBA Dynasty is showing steady growth after its April 16 soft launch. The game hasn’t received much marketing, but already has a steadily-rising MAU figure of 48,000 and DAU relatively stable around the 7,000-8,000 mark.

In contrast Lionside’s NBA Legend focuses more on building up the capabilities of an individual player avatar rather than purchasing, constructing and coaching a team themselves. Legends also uses a completely different set of social hooks between friends. In fact, Krichel doesn’t believe the two games are really “rivals” at all.(source:insidesocialgames

6)Global Warfare on Facebook: Is Kabam’s latest a ‘real game for real gamers?’

There’s an interesting new trend developing in Facebook games. While we’ve all spent the last two years bombarded with me-too games about farming or tending to virtual pets/stores/cities, several companies are starting to reach out to a new type of social gamer — the hardcore strategy gamer.

2KGames is planning to release a rendition of the classic game Civilization for Facebook and Kixeye (formerly Casual Collective) recently rolled out Battle Pirates with plans to create more of the same. Social gaming publisher Kabam, however, has been leading the charge with bringing serious strategy games to Facebook, with the release of Kingdoms of Camelot, Dragons of Atlantis and now, a new modern military-themed strategy game called Global Warfare.

The game is set in a “near future” world where goverments have been disbanded and replaced with a series of warring territories. Players band together to take on other states or dominate using less direct methods, like controlling resources such as titanium or crafting items using collected artifacts.

The game will be refreshed with new content regularly — one big release per month — and the next big thing to roll out in game is the ability to build a third city (right now you can access two cities), along with a new type of special troops and other bonuses.(source:games
