电视节目《Let’s Make a Deal》有望成为Facebook完美搭档。

1)Nexon America’s Q1 Revenues Up 59%

MapleStory publisher Nexon America reported a 59 percent year-over-year growth in revenues for the first quarter — traditionally a slow period for the company.

Though the privately-held firm did not provide a specific dollar figure for its sales during the January-to-March period, Nexon America attributed its success in overcoming seasonal declines this quarter to adding new content to its games, which resulted in increased player activity and sales.

Nexon America specializes in free-to-play titles, such as MapleStory, which has attracted over 6 million users since launching in North America in 2005. The publisher’s other games include Atlantica Online, Combat Arms, Vindictus, Dungeon Fighter Online, and Mabinogi.

The Los Angeles-based company — whose parent is headquartered in Seoul — intends to launch a couple new free-to-play titles this summer, including Eyedentity Games’ MMORPG Dragon Nest and Facebook game MapleStory Adventures — Nexon America’s first social release.

“Our success is the result of our ability to deliver engaging content that our players find valuable, whether they are playing for free or purchasing items in our games,” says Nexon America CEO Daniel Kim. “The substantial growth we are experiencing in North America is a reflection of how well Nexon is doing globally.”

Kim adds, “We are growing our traditional MMOG business as well as expanding into other platforms such as the mobile and social games, which will help to expand our global reach and the number of people playing our games. (Source:Gamasutra

2)Mafia Wars joins Alabama tornado relief effort with Disaster Relief Truck

After Zynga fans demanded that the company respond to the tornado disaster in six southern states last week, it has teamed up with Direct Relief International to bring a more exciting donation option to Mafia Wars. Digital mobsters can now donate to the cause through buying a Disaster Relief Truck in the game’s marketplace for 35 Reward Points.

That amounts to about a $7 donation, 100 percent of which will go directly to the victims of the tornadoes, according to the Mafia Wars Blog. Better yet, the vehicle packs an impressive 112 Attack and 70 Defense. Just yesterday, the company provided a link to donate to the tornado victims through Save the Children. You asked for more ways to contribute through Zynga, and here they’ve started to emerge. Now, you have no excuse but to make a contribution, so get to it already.(Source:Games

3)Monster City: New Freemium Social Game for iOS

The list of freemium games that are available on the Apple App Store appears to be getting longer and longer these days. Back at the beginning of April we brought you news about the newly released Big Time Gangsta game, and now we have details of another game called Monster City.

As Anthony Usher over on the pocketgamer.co.uk website recently noted, the Monster City game is a brand new freemium social offering from the likes of Tap Pocket. The aim of the game is for players to take a derelict island, and turn it into a lively monster sanctuary.

Players can achieve this by building home environments and filling them with different species of monster. Players will also have to construct décor, in order to attract spectators to their monster sanctuary. The app features a variety of different monsters to unlock, buy and breed.

The Monster City game also features Retina Display graphics, Game Center integration for leaderboards, and the ability to listen to your own music whilst you play. The app also enables players to visit their friends, to check out what monsters they have added to their cities.

As noted over on the itunes.apple.com website, the app is compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, but does require the device to be running iOS 3.0 or above. Do you like games such as Monster City?(Source:product-reviews

4)Zynga Games Command One Quarter Of This Week’s List of Fastest-Growing Facebook Games by DAU

This week’s list of fastest-growing games on Facebook based on daily active users features five of Zynga’s games. Leading the pack is CityVille, which saw a gain of 1.1 million players this week. CityVille has been holding steady in terms of traffic and retention for the last few weeks, and is still the top Facebook application overall according to AppData (our metrics platform for analyzing the top games and applications on Facebook). Aside from a dip in traffic and retention on April 24 and 25, CityVille has been maintaining a 21-22% DAU/MAU percentage.

Other Zynga titles present this week include FarmVille, Treasure Isle, FrontierVille, and Texas HoldEm Poker. Zynga’s cross-game customer loyalty program, RewardVille, could be contributing to the growth of some of these older games.

Auto Hustle is a Metrogames title that launched last October but has only recently begun to take off. This game is best explained as Grand Theft Auto meets Mafia Wars. Players collect weapons and power-ups to fight people on the street, steal cars, and blow up police vehicles. Jobs are given Mafia Wars-style that require energy to be completed and provide objectives to complete while wandering the town. When we reviewed this game, we noticed a very clunky control scheme that made Auto Hustle frustrating to play. Unfortunately, the game is still plagued by bugs that detract from what could be a very solid game. Nonetheless, Auto Hustle began growing on April 24 following its official launch.(Source:Inside Social Games

5)Classic TV game show ‘Let’s Make A Deal’ targetted for Facebook

RealNetworks’ game development studio and games website GameHouse had made a deal to bring Let’s Make a Deal to Facebook as a game this fall.

GameHouse secured the exclusive licensing deal with FremantleMedia Enterprises to develop social games for the TV game show, which made its debut in 1962 and is now on CBS daily, for a new medium.

“Game shows on Facebook are becoming an increasingly popular genre. There are several strong performers already, such as Family Feud, Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Wheel of Fortune,” says RealNetworks Senior Vice President Matt Hulett. “GameHouse has experience publishing games with both branded (intellectual property) licensees such as Mattel and large TV game show games.”

Let’s Make a Deal is a natural fit for the social platform, he says, “because the show’s format already has all of the elements necessary to make a great social game. Let’s Make a Deal has phenomenal consumer recognition and strong appeal. The show is a classic with a well-understood game premise … (and) embodies personality and has a great sense of humor with its costumes and ‘zonks.’ Plus the mini-games format is sure to add variety, and there are terrific opportunities to personalize, customize and engage friends.”(Source:usatoday
