最近有不少《CityVille》的支持者及游戏行业分析师认为，《CityVille》这个社交游戏新霸主的崛起，直接导致了《FarmVille》月活跃用户大量流失。如果这些论断成立的话，那么《CityVille》和《FarmVille》就成了同一屋檐下的宿敌。但游戏邦认为，目前仍不可轻易下此结论，这两者未必真处于内斗的局面。

据AllFacebook.com技术团队的观察，《FarmVille》在去年3月的MAU（月活跃用户人数）达到顶峰，总共8400万，但很快就有所回落。如果单纯拿这两款游戏的MAU数据进行对比，可能就会草率判断《CityVille》挖走了《FarmVille》的玩家。但假如再看看《FarmVille》的历史数据，就不难发现早在《CityVille》问世之前，这款游戏的MAU发展就已经出现疲软。

Robbing The Family — Did CityVille Steal Its Players From FarmVille?

Thanks to the extraordinary tech team over at AllFacebook.com, I was able to retrieve historical data on FarmVille for this particular piece. CityVillians (and other gaming analysts for that matter) believe that FarmVille has been losing massive amounts of users to the almighty and unstoppable CityVille. If the pundits are correct, CityVille must have been a thief in the night. On the other hand, critics could have done a  quick and imprudent analysis of the two games that created a fallacy between these two gaming titans.

Back in March of 2010, FarmVille was at its peak with 84 million monthly active users. Shortly after this event, MAU began to decline. If you are to compare the two games at this very moment, it  looks as though CityVille is taking gamers away from FarmVille. However, if you take a look at the historical data of FarmVille, the game’s dive occurred well before than CityVille’s rise.

As of today, FarmVille has 56.1 million monthly active users – about 20 million users less than a year ago. The 20 million user shift did not occur from CityVille: CityVille did not appear until December of 2010. For us to conclude that CityVille was the downfall of FarmVille is inaccurate and careless. If you think that taking a look at FarmVille’s daily active users will make a difference, think again.

According to AllFacebook.com, FarmVille’s daily active users remained steady during CityVille’s release. Dips in gamers occurred during the holiday break, but mostly due to the lack of users at work. By looking at the data, massive amounts of FarmVille users did not jump from one game to the other – causing FarmVille’s decline.
