1,Konami parted ways with legendary game designer Hideo Kojima last fall, just as he finished work on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. And last night, the Japanese company revealed that Metal Gear Solid V sold more than 6 million units.

In the last nine months ended Dec. 31, overall sales for the digital entertainment division was 93.4 billion yen ($771M) for the nine months ending December 31, 2015, up from 67.9 billion yen ($560M) the year prior. Profit for the division was 25.5 billion yen ($210M), a big bump over 10.7 billion ($88M) from the same period a year earlier.

The company also said that Pro Evolution Soccer, its soccer game, contributed a lot to the quarter. Konami also said it had a hit in mobile title Jikkyou Pawafuru Puroyakyu.

Kojima, who was the best known game designer, resigned in December and signed a deal to make his next game for Sony. That was the end to what seemed to be a fractious relationship between Kojima and Konami management.

Kojima’s troubles with Konami have been well publicized, and many people expected that he would leave after the publication of MGSV. During the airing of The Game Awards, host Geoff Keighley said that a lawyer from Konami informed Kojima that he would not be allowed to travel from Japan to the U.S. to be present for the awards show. Kojima had worked with Konami since publishing his first Metal Gear game in 1987.(source:venturebeat.com

2,The Assassin’s Creed franchise has had a surprisingly strong track record on the App Store. Spin-offs like Assassin’s Creed Pirates, Memories, Recollection and Rearmed have all managed to provide a healthy dose of fun in a familiar world.

The next mobile game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Identity, aimed to be the first smartphone title to provide an experience on par with the console games — but it has seemingly been in limbo. After a soft-launch back in September 2014 and a long wait with no worldwide release, we’ve found ourselves wondering if Ubisoft had put the kibosh on what looked to be the most authentic mobile entry in the series to date.

As of today there are some reasons for renewed hope. Pocket Gamer is reporting that a trailer had briefly surfaced this morning (before quickly being removed) that announced an Assassin’s Creed Identity release date of February 25th. They are also reporting that the Facebook page for Ubisoft South America announced the date as February 1st (before deleting this post as well).

Is this solid confirmation that Assassin’s Creed Identity is coming in February? Absolutely not. But it’s a good sign — and we’re going to keep our assassin-loving fingers crossed.(source:game zebo.com

3,Sony sold 8.4 million units of the PlayStation 4 in the third quarter, taking the total sold this fiscal year to 15.4 million – higher than the amount it sold in the whole of the previous year.

14.8 million units of the console were sold in the fiscal year ended March 2015, but Sony has already breezed past that by more than 600,000 units. That’s largely down to the strength of the third quarter, in which 8.4 million PlayStation 4s were sold – 2 million more than the same quarter last year.

Sony expects to sell 17.5 million PlayStation 4s by the end of the fourth quarter. At the start of the year, the company confirmed that lifetime sales were approaching 36 million units.

The Game & Network Services division earned $4.89 billion in revenue, up 10.5 per cent year-on-year. Operating income improved by an even wider margin, up 45 per cent to $335 million. Around $2.7 billion of the revenue came from Hardware sales, with $1.3 billion attributed to Network, and the remainder categorised as Other.

In addition to strong hardware sales and higher software sales, the division was also helped by the absence of the write-down of PS Vita and PS TV components it took in this quarter last year.

As a whole, Sony Corp. posted $21.5 billion revenue for the quarter, less than a 1 per cent increase over the prior year. Net income rose 33 per cent, however, an increase of 33 per cent.(source:gamesindustry.biz
