1,Despite being a privately-owned company, Finnish entertainment outfit Rovio has announced its financials for 2014.

As expected, sales were down.

Compared to 2013, 2014′s sales were down 9 percent to $192 million (€158 million).

The reason for the decline was the collapse in Angry Birds’ merchandising; sales were down 43 percent.

However, games revenues rose 16 percent to $134 million (€111 million).

Operating earnings were down 72 percent to $12 million.

Focusing on the positives, Rovio pointed out that it had launched six new games during 2014, including its first free-to-play titles.

It also continues to generate a vast number of game downloads – 600 million in 2014 alone – and remains in the top 10 mobile publishers in the world on the basis of downloads.

“2014 results show that steps in the game portfolio, free to play competency building and advertising are going in the right direction. I am confident that with new simplified organisation and clearer vision, we will be back to the path of growth in 2015″ commented new CEO Pekka Rantala.(source:pocketgamer

2,Any speculation that the departure of Hideo Kojima from Konami would spell an end to the developer’s Metal Gear franchise was put to rest today, as the publisher today released a statement committing to new installments in the series.

“Konami will continue to develop and distribute top-quality content in the Metal Gear series following [Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain],” the publisher said. “We greatly anticipate and deeply appreciate your ongoing support for Metal Gear. As the next step in the series, Konami has already resolved to develop new Metal Gear. We will be conducting interviews for main staff to lead the development.”

While Konami didn’t confirm that Kojima is departing the publisher (as reported yesterday), it only said the developer would remain with the company throughout The Phantom Pain’s development. The game is set to launch worldwide in early September. Konami’s statement also included a quote from Kojima that was similarly non-committal about his future with the company after the game’s launch.

“I want to reassure fans that I am 100 percent involved and will continue working on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain; I’m determined to make it the greatest game I’ve directed to date,” Kojima said.(source:gamesindustry.biz

3,It’s late on a Friday afternoon/evening, and we’re getting ready to wrap things up until Monday. But before we give you the Best Reviews of the week, the Game of the Week, and The TouchArcade Show podcast, I just had to sneak in a quick recommendation for a game I’ve been enjoying since yesterday called Rush Rally [Free]. As I’m sure you could guess, Rush Rally is a rally racing game. Now, there’s no shortage of racing games on the App Store, but rally racing
games are a bit more rare, and ones that actually nail the driving physics are even scarcer. Rush Rally is one of those that totally nails it.The feeling of car weight as you drive, the grip of the different terrains, and just the overall handling all feel very, very good. I love me some slip-and- sliding arcade-y racing games, but this is not that. At all. You need to be very careful about finding the right line through turns and, yes, even braking when appropriate (gasp!). That said, Rush Rally dials the realism back just enough so that the game is still incredibly fun and not a frustrating chore like some real hardcore sims can be. It just strikes a fantastic balance and feels quite a bit different than most racers on the App Store. I also dig the top- down camera angle in the game, which reminds me of one of my favorite (very arcade-y) racers Reckless Racing.(source:toucharcade.com
