1,Although it’s not (yet) a publicly-owed company, Kabam has announced some financial figures, as well as a candid assessment of its business over the past 12 months.

For 2014, it’s revealed total revenue was $400 million.

This is up 11 percent on the $360 million it announced at the start of 2014.

Kabam points out that 2014 marks its fifth consecutive year of growth.

The F2P publisher has been profitable since 2012 and is now over ten times larger than it was four years ago, and is valued at over $1 billion.

However, April 2014 it predicted annual sales would be in the order of $550 to $600 million.

Polishing time

“We made 2014 a transformational year by rebuilding our studios leadership team, delaying some games and tightening our focus on high performing games,” said Kevin Chou.

“As always, we take the long-term view to ensure satisfied customers, sustainable growth and a slate of new games that will lead the market.”

The company has a headcount of more than 800 staff and a cash warchest of more than $150 million.

During 2014, 12 of its games generated more than $1 million a month.

Bump in the road

Aside from revenue growth, 2014 was a pivotal year for Kabam in other ways too.

It sold off most of its web games to focus on mobile, and has hired a new product management team, as well as acquiring US developers Phoenix Age, TapZen and Magic Pixel Games.

It’s also tightened up its thirdparty publishing operations, which Kabam says fell significantly short of its revenue forecast, with a new focus on fewer, higher quality games.(source:pocketgamer.biz

2,Ouya hasn’t been the breakout success following its huge Kickstarter that some thought it could be, but the microconsole could have an opportunity to make a dent in the burgeoning console market in China. Today, the Wall Street Journal revealed that Chinese internet company Alibaba has invested $10 million in Ouya and the two companies have discussed a plan to incorporate Ouya’s software and library of more than 1,000 games into Alibaba’s set-top box, according to “people familiar with the matter.”

Alibaba has been investing heavily in several technology companies recently. It poured $215 million in mobile-messaging startup Tango last year, and also made investments in app search-engine Quixey and two-day shipping provider ShopRunner. And from the gaming side, Alibaba also bought a 10 percent stake in mobile game publisher Kabam for $120 million, with the intent to distribute games through Alibaba mobile apps in China. With the ban on consoles lifted in China now, it’s clear that Alibaba sees another big opportunity ahead.

For Ouya, it wouldn’t be the company’s first foray into China. Ouya landed a deal last year to provide games to TV-streaming devices made by Xiaomi. Ouya has been working with its developers to translate their titles and help make them more appealing for a Chinese audience.

Since it became clear that microconsoles weren’t about to take over the US games market, Ouya decided to allow other companies to utilize the Ouya Discover store platform on their own devices. It’s easy to see how this functionality could be leveraged by Alibaba on its own set-top boxes.(source: gamesindustry.biz

3,The “definitive version” of Quantic Dream’s Indigo Prophecy is now available on PC, Mac and Linux via Steam as well as iOS. Crafted by porting specialist Aspyr Media, the updated version of the “supernatural murder mystery game” goes by the name Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered as a nod to the 2005 adventure’s European name. Players can download it for $9.99 (€8.99 / £6.99).

Aspyr noted in its FAQ that there is “absolutely no cut or censored content in this version” of the game. Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered features updated graphics that can be toggled on and off on the fly and controller support across all platforms. While the Heavy Rain developer’s original game was capped at a resolution of 1024 × 768, Aspyr said the remastered version supports native resolutions up to 2880 × 1800. Aspyr claimed it “gave every texture
in the game a facelift,” giving some elements four times the detail as the original game, but the 2 GB size limit on iOS forced remastered textures to only double in size in the mobile version. While it won’t provide a release date just yet, the developer did add that an Android version of Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy is in the works.(source:joystiq.com
