1,After more than two years on sale in the notoriously competitive mobile market, Ndemic Creations’ Plague Inc. is riding high in the charts once again.

Normally, this would be a cause for celebration, but Ndemic founder James Vaughan has pointed to a rather distressing cause for Plague Inc’s 50 per cent spike in downloads over the past week: the Ebola outbreak that has claimed thousands of lives so far, and is the subject of concern in countries all over the world.

According to new data sourced by The Daily Mail, Plague Inc.’s downloads rose by more than 147,000 in the period between October 10 and 16. During the same period, the game’s weekly player count was up by more than 900,000 to reach 4 million.

In the last two months, it has climbed the iOS paid download charts (US) from a spot outside the top 20 to become a consistent fixture in the top 5.

“I think this is the first time a real world situation has been the reason why people are getting the game,’ Vaughan said.

“Players are often interested in real-world issues, and frequently discuss diseases and the science behind them. Recently, we have seen that tens of thousands of Plague Inc players are talking about Ebola on game forums and social media.”(source:gamesindustry

2,Two years after the launch of their Rail Nation, Travian Games and Bright Future have announced their second transport strategy title, Truck Nation, which is in development for release in Spring 2015. The game will revolve around building a successful trucking company, completing shipping orders and gaining control of as many routes around the game world as possible.

Truck Nation is being developed for release on browser, as well as Android and iOS devices. The game will be played on realistic maps, which means players will drive on roads that actually exist in the real-world, while also encountering things like police checkpoints and traffic jams, just as they might when really driving outside of the game. Altogether, the game’s goal will be for players to earn victory over “The Corporation,” a ruthless trucking company that exploits its drivers.(source:insidesocialgames.com

3,Given what’s previously happened at Chinese publisher Shanda Games (NASDAQ:GAME), it’s a wonder the situation could have gotten any more strange.

But it has.

It’s announced that its CEO Xiangdong Zhang has stepped down from his role and been removed from the board of directors and the compensation committee and the corporate development and finance committee with immediate effect.

Yingfeng Zhang has replaced him in those roles and is now acting CEO.

He will lead the search for a new CEO.

Behind the scenes

Of course, key for any newcomer will be the $1.9 billion offer to take the company private; something that’s been causing executive strife since it was tabled in early 2014.

As for that process of acceptance or rejection, all Shanda will formally say is “There can be no assurance that any definitive agreement will be executed relating to the proposed transaction, or that the proposed transaction or any other transaction will be approved or consummated.”(source:pocketgamer

4,EA (NASDAQ: EA) announced its Q2 FY15 financial figures, for the period ending 30 September 2014.

Total revenue was $990 million, up 42 percent year-on-year.

Of this revenue, 51 percent was generated from the sale of digital goods.

During Q2, EA generated net income of $3 million, compared to a loss of $273 million 12 months ago.

Players first

“Electronic Arts continues to put our players first, delivering new experiences, innovation and new ways to play,” said new CEO Andrew Wilson.

“It was an excellent second quarter, with strong new titles, deep player engagement in our live services and ongoing digital growth driving continued momentum.”

Cashflow was also strong, up $189 million year-on-year; one reason that EA has raised its full year 2015 guidance to $4.48 billion.

The company ended the quarter with cash and equivalents worth $1.6 billion.

Steady as she goes

EA Mobile generated $123 million during the quarter, up 64 percent year-on-year, but the same revenue as booked during Q1 FY15.

This means mobile accounts for 12 percent of EA’s quarterly sales, a figure that’s been steady at between 10-12 percent for the past five quarters.(source: pocketgamer
