1,The number of players who pay for virtual goods in mobile games declined from 1.5 percent in January to 1.35 percent in July, according to a study of millions of gamers by mobile-marketing-automation firm Swrve.

In an exclusive interview with GamesBeat, Swrve chief strategy officer Hugh Reynolds and Swrve CEO Christopher Dean said they found that 62 percent of all mobile-game revenues come from 0.13 percent of all players. Those are scary and depressing numbers for developers and publishers, as they rely on virtual- goods purchases for most of their revenue in free-to-play mobile titles.

“This shows how game companies are dependent on a small group of people who are paying the bills,” Reynolds said.

This means that great care should be taken when acquiring new users, as the vast majority of them provide no revenue, Reynolds said. Companies have to try really hard to ensure that anyone acquired is likely to spend money. The data were contained in Swrve’s latest “monetization report” on mobile games. It covers information from the month of July 2014, and it comes six months after Swrve’s first monetization report.

The good news in the report is that significant growth occurred in the mid-tier of spenders — or those who spend between $10 and $20 in a month. Those payers represented 18.4 percent of unit sales and 32.3 percent of revenue, compared to just 8.2 percent and 22.4 percent, respectively, six months ago. (source:venturebeat

2,RoyalCactus has a new puzzle game available for Facebook gamers: Sleepy Wings. The game sees users completing levels by dragging their mouse on top of colorful, sleeping birds in order to wake them up and remove them from the screen. Each level has its own board layout and completion requirements, which become more complicated as players progress.

In each level of Sleepy Wings, players click and drag to create chains of at least three birds of the same color, horizontally, vertically and/or diagonally.
When players create a chain at least six birds in length, a bomb is added to the screen. This bomb automatically detonates, clearing other birds from the screen without wasting moves. If the chain reaches 12 birds in length, it becomes more powerful, and removes even more birds upon detonation.

Each level has a different overall requirement. Some levels ask players to collect large numbers of specific colors of birds, while another level type asks players to return birds to birdhouses of matching colors. Birds can only be added to the birdhouses by linking the birds in a chain with the houses themselves. In these particular stages, any birds cleared by power-ups will also head into the birdhouses automatically. A third kind of level asks players to remove feathers from stone totems by including the totem(s) in matches with each color of bird on the screen.(source:insidesocialgames

3,DeNA and Room 8 Studio have released Popcorn Party on iOS devices. The logic-based puzzle game sees players drawing lines between colorful kernels of popcorn to remove them from the screen, with each level having different completion requirements and their own sets of obstacles. The game features over 60 levels at launch, which become increasingly complicated over time.
In each level of Popcorn Party, players are presented with a colorful assortment of a few (or many) popcorn kernels. To remove them, players need to draw lines between matching kernels, causing them to increase in size. When one individual corn kernel is connected to three lines, it pops, taking all connected kernels with it. The larger the set of connected kernels, the more points the explosion is worth.

Levels may ask players to pop certain quantities of specific colors of kernels, or collect small stars that are scattered around the game board by drawing lines through them. Additional stages ask players to collect items by drawing lines in such a way as to “trap” these items in the resulting shapes those lines form, and so on. In addition, some stages are timed, and do away with the move limit altogether.(source:insidemobileapps.com
