1,Microsoft announced Saturday morning that it is going to delay its launch of the Xbox One video game console in China until later this year. The joint launch with partner BesTV was scheduled to happen on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Microsoft said it still plans to launch the system — the first game console to legally launch in China in 15 years — before the end of the year. Microsoft will proceed with an event in Shanghai at the Oriental Pearl Tower with fans and partners on Monday, Sept. 22. Attendees will be able to enjoy gameplay, great music and entertainment. Microsoft will also be giving away 100 consoles to fans that attend, which they will receive when the console launches. It just won’t be shipping consoles at that time.

Microsoft said those in China who preordered will still be the first to receive the Chinese version of the console, and they will also get an unspecified added bonus. The company still says it is working with 25 leading developers to deliver 70 games for Xbox One fans in China. It is also working with more than 4,000 retail locations in 37 cities to finalize the launch.(source:vebturebeat

2,DeNA has announced the release of its newest puzzle game on iOS devices: Cupcake Carnival. The game asks players to whip up cakes and other baked goods to serve hungry customers. In each level, players are asked to tap and drag their finger across groups of matching cakes to remove them from the screen and serve them to guests. Each level has a different requirement for completion, but multiple power-ups help gamers out along the way.

In each level of Cupcake Carnival, guests appear across the top of the screen, and must be served by removing cakes from the hexagonal game board that match the number and variety of cakes they’re asking for. One may ask for six pink cupcakes, for instance, while another asks for 10 croissants. Moves must contain at least three symbols to be valid, but players can remove as many cake pieces as the can for more points. In addition, if two customers want the same type of baked good, a single move can be used to serve them both, depending on the excess available after the first guest has been served.(source: insidemobileapps

3,After an incredibly successful launch on iOS in late August, Disney Interactive has announced the release of Star Wars: Commander on Android and Windows Phone devices. In Star Wars: Commander, players side with either the Empire or the Rebels in the Galactic Civil War, completing missions for Star Wars heroes and villains like Princess Leia and Darth Vader. The game has been downloaded more than five million times on iOS alone, and players have, for now, sided with the Dark Side more often than not.

This release on Android and Windows Phone introduces cross-platform gameplay to the title, as users can download the game on multiple devices and have their progress waiting for them. In addition, guilds, leaderboards, multiplayer battles and other social features support users from any gameplay device, widening the potential pool for creating friends and allies in the game.

When asked about future Star Wars content updates, Nathan Etter, Disney’s VP of studio operations tells us, “We’ve seen great responses to our original storyline and missions in the game, and we built the game as a platform so we can continue to evolve this story over the coming months. We’re excited to be able to take players to many of the locations throughout the classic movie trilogy, and even introduce them to characters and places they may have never met!

4,The mobile analytics firm Swrve has raised a further $10 million in funding, putting its lifetime total above $20 million.

The new round was led by Acero Capital, and featured contributions from all of Swrve’s existing investors. Now that the round has closed, Rami Elkhatib, a partner at Acero, will join the board. The company’s lifetime funding now stands at $22 million.

Swrve’s services are not limited to game companies, but it does list Activision, EA, Epic and Sega among its clients – the number of which has grown 300 per cent in the last 12 months. The company boasts a reach of 500 million unique devices, processing 3 billion events every day.

“As our conventional understanding of ‘e-commerce’ becomes increasingly obsolete and more and more consumers conduct business via mobile devices, it is platforms like Swrve that will control and grow the consumer relationship,” said Christopher S. Dean, CEO of Swrve, in a statement.(source:gameindustry

5,Billy Berghammer revealed on Twitter this week that he’s landed a new job at Nintendo of America; the former journalist is now a product development analyst for Nintendo’s Treehouse division, which is responsible for translating text from Japanese to English, guiding North American marketing, and generally just ensuring that Nintendo’s top games are as polished as they can be when they are released in the US.

Berghammer got his start in the industry by founding the Nintendo-centric website Planet GameCube in 1999, and he then moved on to Game Informer to oversee its (at the time) new website in 2003. Nearly five years later he spent some time as a freelancer before taking a job at G4tv, which hired him as editorial director of gaming. He was also briefly the group editor-in-chief for EGM Media before leaving the world of journalism to handle PR and community relations
at Ryan Payton’s Camouflaj (Republique).(source:gameindustry
