尽管如此,位于日本iOS和Android榜单前列的《Puzzle & Dragons》以及《Clash of Clans》这两者却并非Unity工具开发的游戏,采用该工具开发的游戏排名最靠前的是Colopl作品《Quiz RPG: World of Mystic Wiz》,它在Android排名第二,在iOS排名第四。

2)Stepping up? DeNA’s Downie resurfaces at Zynga

by Jon Jordan

The surprising news of the morning was that DeNA West CEO Clive Downie had mysteriously resigned.

The surprising news of the evening was that Downie had mysteriously surfaced – as the new chief operating officer of Zynga.

Yet given Downie had previously worked at EA, the move from one San Francisco-based company to another made sense given that new Zynga CEO – and Downie’s ex-EA colleague – Don Mattrick is reshuffling his executives.

Right hand man

“I have known Clive for more than two decades and am pleased to welcome him to the team,” commented Mattrick.

“He is a seasoned leader with a deep understanding of consumer, marketing and mobile engagement, international experience operating both in EMEA and Japan, and a rich background in game publishing – all of which are incredibly valuable as Zynga navigates its move to mobile.”

“I joined Zynga because I believe it has the ability to unlock disruptive new ideas that span gaming genres, markets and services,” added an optimistic Downie.(source:pocketgamer

3)Zynga reports Q3 2013 financial results, names Clive Downie as COO

Brandy Shaul

Zynga has announced its financial results for Q3 2013, seeing a decrease in revenue year-over-year. The company also announced that Clive Downie, former CEO of DeNA West, has joined the mobile and social developer / publisher as its new Chief Operating Officer.

Zynga reported revenue of $203 million for the quarter ending September 30, a decrease of 36 percent year over year. Zynga reported bookings of $152 million, down 40 percent year over year.

“I am pleased with our Q3 performance which exceeded our guidance both in terms of bookings and adjusted EBITDA. We are encouraged to see sightlines to growth and expect to be profitable for the full year on an adjusted EBITDA basis,” said Zynga CEO Don Mattrick in a statement.

Despite launching multiple new games during the quarter, including Fairy Tale Twist on Facebook and CastleVille Legends on mobile, Zynga’s monthly active users decreased 29 percent quarter-over-quarter, now sitting at 133 million users, as compared to 187 million last quarter.

During its financial earnings call today, Zynga CFO Mark Vranesh attributed these losses to a decrease in popularity of ‘Ville-style’ games, as well as the summer lull seen in Zynga Poker.

Zynga projects revenue of $175 million to $185 million for Q4 2013. Its Q4 2013 bookings are expected to be in the range of $130 million to $140 million.(source:insidemobileapps

4)Half of the top iOS and Android games in Japan are built in Unity

by Matthew Diener

Looking at lists of the top 12 iOS and Android games in Japan, an interesting trend emerges – a full half of the combined 24 titles are built in Unity.

CEO of Unity Technologies David Helgason let the figures slip on his Facebook page after taking a look at the charts.

Despite the success, however, Helgason remained humble and kept a sense or perspective: “Last year that would have been a handful (we were proud of that too), and 2011 maybe a couple during the entire year,” he detailed on Facebook.

“It’s incredible to see that 50 percent of the top games in Japan on both Android and iOS are built in Unity.”

The dragon in the room

While the volume of Unity games on both iOS (5 out of 12) and Android (7 out of 12) in Japan is impressive, the top spot remains outside of Unity’s grasp at it’s held firmly across both platforms by GungHo’s Puzzle and Dragons.

Clash of Clans also disrupts Unity’s reign, seizing the #2 while charting at #10 on Android.

COLOPL’s trivia-based Quiz RPG: World of Mystic Wiz has the strongest average placement of a Unity-powered game, charting at #2 on Android and #4 on iOS.

Having 12 out of the top 24 games in Japan built on a single platform is quite an accomplishment, and Helgason is confident that the best is yet to come for the engine.

“Year 2014 will be exciting,” he concluded, “not least with all the new tech we’re bringing out as well as our (very soon) upcoming 2D tools.”(source:pocketgamer

5)Our kids don’t know 40 per cent of their Facebook ‘friends’

by Phil Tottman

One in five parents shocked at what they find on their children’s email, text and social media accounts.

61 per cent of mums and dads regularly snoop on their kid’s online activities, and are convinced that they lie about their age to gain access to social networking sites, reveals BullGuard.

Nearly a third feel guilty after hacking Facebook accounts, however as our young ones don’t know 40 per cent of their Facebook buddies, they certainly can’t be blamed.

As more kids get connected, there is a bigger demand for secure platforms such as kid’s content discovery service SuperAwesome.

More than one in ten parents have had to deal with offspring being bullied while surfing the Internet, with a huge 17 per cent having to intervene after the child was threatened.

An even more worrying stat is that 27 per cent of parents said their kids did not know the aggressor.

Alex Balan, head of product at BullGuard, said: “Parents do face a real moral dilemma as to whether they should check what their children are doing online.

“It’s understandable to want to keep tabs on the sites that they are visiting but whether to read private emails, texts and messages poses a real quandary for parents.”

The main concerns for parents were who their kids were talking to online, how much time they spend on the Internet and the type of sites they are visiting, with other concerns being posting suggestive pictures and declaring family holidays putting their empty home at risk.

Balan continued: “It’s hard enough watching your children 24/7 in the real world, but keeping tabs on their movements online is the real challenge.”(source:mobile-ent
