人物专访:Chillingo主管谈《怪物吃糖果》及未来发行计划

继《愤怒鸟》之后,英国发行商Chillingo近日推出的《怪物吃糖果》(Cut the Rope)也一炮打响,摘走App Store史上最热卖游戏的桂冠。

Pocketgamer记者专门采访了Chillingo公司主管克里斯·拜尔特(Chris Byatte),了解到《怪物吃糖果》为何会胜出、Chillingo公司的跨平台发行计划等情况。下文是访谈内容:

问:你们是怎么发现ZeptoLab公司和他们开发的《怪物吃糖果》这款游戏的?

我们两家公司很早之前就是合作伙伴,我们和许多比较出色的开发商都有联系,知道ZeptoLab确实是最好的几家开发商之一。

问:刚开始接触《怪物吃糖果》时你们是什么反应?

在短短几分钟内我们就迷上了这款游戏,《怪物吃糖果》的确是一款充满个性、幽默感,制作精良的游戏。

问:为什么会认为这款游戏会是下一个《愤怒鸟》?

我们看过成百上千款游戏,觉得《怪物吃糖果》中的游戏机制最为独特,所以它可以脱颖而出。

问:请问你们对该游戏将来的支持计划?

我们会不断推出许多更新版本,留住玩家。

问:为何将该游戏定价为99美分?

我们知道这款游戏一定会老少通吃,吸引所有年龄段的玩家,所以希望所有人都有机会来体验这款游戏的魅力。

问:为什么认为99美分仍然是最适合iPhone游戏的价格?

手机游戏市场实在太宠大(游戏选择太多),根据用户的一般消费倾向,我们认为99美分是最能鼓励用户购买游戏的零售价格。

问:Chillingo已面向PSP迷你掌机发行游戏,但针对其他移动平台的发行还不是很活跃,为什么?

UK publisher Chillingo has released the best selling game on the App Store, and now it’s claiming the fastest selling game on the App Store.

We caught up with director Chris Byatte to get some quickfire answers about how the deal with Cut the Rope developer ZeptoLab came about, and what its future cross platform plans are.

How did you first find out about ZeptoLab and Cut the Rope?

Chris Byatte: We have been friends for a long time. We attract lots of high class developers. We knew ZeptoLab was one of the best.

What was your first reaction when you played it?

We were hooked within minutes. Cut the Rope is full of character, humour and polish.

What made you think it could be next Angry Birds?

We see hundreds of games but the gameplay mechanic in Cut the Rope was so unique that it really jumped out.

How will you be supporting the game in future?

Lots of frequent updates to keep people interested.

How did you decide on the 99c price?

We knew the game would appeal to all ages, so we wanted to make it accessible to everyone.

Why do you think 99c is still a viable price point for iPhone games?

The addressable market is so large, coupled with the propensity to spend, makes 99c the most appetising retail price.

More generally, while Chillingo has published on PSP Minis, you haven’t been active on other mobile platforms yet. Why?
