1）EA mobile revenue up to $89M, $66M from smartphones and tablets

Electronic Arts’ non-GAAP mobile revenues grew 60 percent year-over-year to $89 million for Q2 2013. Of that, $66 million comes from smartphones and tablets, according to Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen.

Jorgensen said today during the company’s earnings call the growth on tablets can be attributed to the strong performance of FIFA World Class Soccer in the Japanese market, PopCap’s Bejeweled Blitz and The Simpsons: Tapped Out, which has reached 17 million total downloads among other achievements.

Overall the company reported $314 million in non-GAAP digital revenue for the quarter, with mobile sales accounting for 28 percent of EA’s total digital revenues.

Mobile revenues were also up 12.6 percent quarter-over-quarter. In July the company reported it saw $79 million in non-GAAP mobile revenue for Q1 2013, $27 million from feature phones and $52 million from smartphones.

Video game giant Electronic Arts’ Q2 2013 earnings report today revealed that The Simpsons: Tapped Out just reached a record-high 2.8 million daily active users after being No. 1 on the iOS top-grossing chart for the past four weeks.The Simpsons: Tapped Out app icon

EA says The Simpsons: Tapped Out also hit No. 1 in the App Store in 54 countries like the U.S., the U.K. and Germany.

According to our traffic tracking service AppData, The Simpsons: Tapped Out is ranked today No. 2 on both the iPhone and iPad top grossing apps charts. The game has been the No. 1 top grossing app for iOS for a majority of October. 3）iOS chief Scott Forstall leaving Apple

Apple’s iOS senior vice president Scott Forstall, who has overseen the operating systems and software for the iPhone and iPad since the devices launched, will leave the company next year.

Forstall’s departure will be a major change for the company — he joined the corporation with Steve Jobs 15 years ago when Apple acquired NeXT, and played a crucial part in building the Mac OSX operating system, as well as iOS. He also managed partnerships with iOS developers, and helped launch Apple’s social game platform Game Center.

Apple has offered no reason for Forstall’s departure, but a report from the New York Times indicates that there was friction between him and other executives at the company, and that his involvement in Apple’s recent troubles with its buggy Maps app may have played a part. He will serve as an advisor for CEO Tim Cook in the interim.

A number of executives at Apple will take over Forstall’s previous responsibilities — Industrial Design SVP Jonny Ive will now handle “Human Interface” design for iOS, Internet Software and Services SVP Eddy Cue will oversee Siri and Maps, former Hardware SVP Bob Mansfield will manage a new Technologies group for the company’s wireless products, and Software Engineering SVP Craig Federighi will lead the iOS and OSX teams.

Apple also announced that recently recruited Retail SVP John Browett will be leaving, and that the Retail team will report directly to Cook as the company searches for a replacement.（source：gamasutra）

4）iOS and Android app stores now tied with 700,000 apps each

There are now more than 700,000 Google Play apps reports Bloomberg. The number signals the Android app ecosystem is now roughly the same size as the iOS one.

For those of you keeping score, during the iPhone 5 launch event on Sept. 12, Apple revealed there were more than 700,000 apps in the iTunes App Store. Apple also repeated that number during its Q4 2012 earnings call.

While the total number of apps available in an app store is only a rough measure of a platform’s overall health — raw numbers don’t indicate the quality of apps available, or how effectively their developers are able to monetize them — it’s clear from the accelerating growth rate of Google Play that developers seem to be more interested in the platform than ever.（source：insidemobileapps）

All models sold out three days after online pre order availability.

The initial inventory of Apple’s iPad Mini has sold out just three days after becoming available for pre order online.

Shipping times for the three Wi-Fi versions of the black and white iPad Mini have now been pushed back to two weeks, suggesting that entire initial stock is sold out. The LTE-enabled iPad Mini models are, however, yet to go on sale.

While some investors were initially unsettled by Apple’s decision to price the iPad Mini at a starting cost of $329 – notably higher than such competing tablets as the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire – its unprecedented demand is sure to have gone some to allaying any such concerns.（source：mobile-ent）
