Paris-based mobile games publisher Gameloft (Let’s Golf, Modern Combat) announced that it has sold more than 20 million games in the iTunes App Store since Apple launched the service in 2008.

Gameloft, a major player in the mobile games marketplace, notes that 42 of its 47 App Store games released in 2010 have ranked as top-five sellers in Apple’s iPhone and iPad sales charts.

25 of Gameloft’s App Store releases this year have topped Apple’s sales charts in their debut weeks.

Gameloft attributes its success to particularly strong sales performances from the film tie-in title Iron Man 2, the iPhone 4-optimized first-person shooter N.O.V.A., and its Let’s Golf franchise. The company also frequently promotes aggressive app discounts, revitalizing the sales of flagging titles by dropping their prices as low as 99 cents each.

“The first half of 2010 marks a new step for us on the App Store,” said Michel Guillemot, President of Gameloft. “The launch of the iPad and iPhone 4 has opened new horizons for developers and allowed us once again to transform our consumers gaming experience. 20 million paid downloads is proof that our games meet the expectations of our players and we will continue to satisfy them.”
