3)Adobe Digital Marketing Insight

5)The Sunday Times Apps最近调查数据显示,半数以上用户投入手机应用程序的时间多于发送邮件、短信或打电话。

其他调查结果包括:

*半数英国人口已成为智能手机用户;

*2011年市场诞生了100多万款有效应用程序;

*用户下载的80%应用属于免费产品;

*2011年最后一周,英国应用下载量达8100万次;

*平均每名英国智能手机用户安装了38款应用;

*半数用户用户每周至少下载一款新应用。

6)Square Enix近日宣布聘请Ben Cusack(曾在Zed和Mobile Interactive Group等公司任职)任公司移动团队(位于伦敦)主管,并将向智能手机和平板电脑平台推出益智游戏《KooZac》。

1)The Angry Birds will not crash-land on the stock market in 2012

by Joe Osborne

If Rovio went public this year, then its Angry Birds wouldn’t nail their first flight from the nest. Peter Vesterbacka, marketing head of the Finnish mobile game maker, said as much to Reuters. “We are not in a rush. This year is way too early for an IPO, there are too many open things, and we are in a very early stage of the Angry Birds life cycle,” Vesterbacka told Reuters.

However, speaking to the possibilities of an initial public offering (IPO), Rovio did say that it’s looking at either New York or China as the base for its IPO, which could put the Angry Birds masterminds’ worth at $1 billion or more. “Hong Kong is very interesting, absolutely, but again it is totally dependent on how markets develop,” Vesterbacka said to Reuters. “Asia is where all the people are, and future growth.”

While 2012 will not be the year the Angry Birds fly into the stock market, it will be year they fly into new game genres. Rovio has already made clear that it wants to release several new kinds of Angry Birds games in 2012. And, as if the peeved parrots weren’t already damned near everywhere, Rovio plans to expand its money-printing franchise to even more platforms. IPO or not, 2012 will probably be another huge year for the wingless WMDs. The surly squawkers. The–we could do this all day.(source:games

2)Lumia love to push Windows Phone past iOS in smartphone race by 2015, reports IHS iSuppli

by Matt Sakuraoka-Gilman

Having lifted the lid on its US flagship Lumia 900 at CES 2012, analysts have begun to speak of Nokia’s Windows Phone assault with renewed vigour.

Case in point: the latest study by IHS iSuppli predicts the next few years will see Nokia’s partnership with Microsoft shaking things up in the smartphone market, with Windows Phone’s market share overtaking iOS to take second spot behind Android by 2015.

Specifically, the firm’s findings indicate Windows Phone will grab 16.7 percent of the market, compared to 16.6 percent for iOS and 58.1 percent for Android.

Hot stuff

Such a rise would represent some jump from the 1.9 percent share the firm claims Windows Phone amassed in 2011, but IHS iSuppli believes Nokia’s Lumia range has the power to be a game changer.

“One of the hottest new products unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show was the Lumia 900, a Windows Phone-based smartphone sporting a flashy set of features that makes it competitive with the best alternatives offered by the Android camp,” said senior analyst Wayne Lam.

“This hot product represents Nokia’s first step to reclaim its market share. Combined with Nokia’s efforts to drive the development of the Windows Phone ecosystem, the Lumia 900 and its successors will help Microsoft to reclaim its No. 2 ranking in smartphone operating system market share in 2015.”

One of the driving factors behind the body’s projections is Nokia’s grand ambitions in the US market, with the firm’s decision to launch Lumia 900 in North America first set to pay dividends.

Look out, Nokia’s about

“In the past, Nokia always introduced new technologies in its home European market first,” said senior principal analyst Francis Sideco.

“However, for the Lumia 900 – Nokia’s first LTE phone – the company initially is rolling it out in North America. This demonstrates Nokia’s commitment to re-enter the region.”

The body also cites an apparent intention by Nokia to target BlackBerry’s stranglehold on the enterprise market, making use of Microsoft’s strong connections in the sector.

Of course, Nokia isn’t the only OEM supporting Windows Phone, but IHS iSuppli see the Finnish firm accounting for 50 percent of all handsets manufactured in 2012, rising to 62 percent in 2013 before dipping again in 2014 as rivals begin to up their output on the OS.

“Because of Nokia’s support, apps developers will eagerly shore up the Windows platform,” added Lam.

“This will cause other makers of Windows Phone devices, such as Samsung and HTC, to offer more products supporting the OS – further expanding the market.”(source:pocketgamer

3)Tablets: the perfect shopping device

By Ryan Kim

Modern tablets have only been on the market for less than two years, but they have quickly become potent shopping tools that generate an outsized effect on online commerce. Last year was the year that the tablet became an online retailer’s best friend as it emerged as the preferred device for many shoppers to make their purchases.

The latest data came earlier this week from Adobe Digital Marketing Insights (pdf), which found that tablet users spend over 50 percent more for each transaction at an online retailer compared to smartphone users and 20 percent more than traditional computer users. Adobe found that the average order value for tablet users was $123 on average per purchase, 54 percent more than smartphone users ($80) and 21 percent more than computer users ($102).

Adobe also found that tablet users were three times more likely to buy something than smartphone users and nearly as likely to convert to a purchase as traditional computer users. Tablet users now make up 4 percent of all total web visits to retailers, up from 1 percent a year ago. Adobe gathered the data from 16.2 billion visits to the websites of more than 150 retailers in 2011.

The data is consistent with other findings in the previous months that indicate just how tablets are able to create a bigger commerce effect despite its smaller reach. Last year Forrester reported that tablets accounted for 20 percent of e-commerce sales, even though only 9 percent of shoppers own tablets.

A study by Ipsos OTX MediaCT on behalf of PayPal found that tablet owners were almost twice as likely to make purchases as those who only have smartphones. And 28 percent of dual smartphone and tablet owners said they were sure they spent more due to mobile shopping, compared with 13 percent of smartphone owners who said the same.(source:gigaom

4)Mojang’s Kaplan reveals Minecraft downloads have passed 700,000 across Android and iOS

by Matt Sakuraoka-Gilman

Having already made quite a mark amongst the PC gaming community, Minecraft appears to be building a similarly fervent base on smartphones.

In a tweet posted by Mojang’s business developer Daniel Kaplan, Minecraft – Pocket Edition downloads from both Android and iOS have been pegged at 700,000 over the course of the game’s first two months on sale.

Speculate to accumulate

“We have sold over 700 000 copies,” said Kaplan in the tweet, branding the achievement as “quite impressive”.

Kaplan went on to state that the game is currently amassing around 5,000 downloads a day, with some of that success down to the game’s 10c/10p sale on Android Market – one of the headline games in Google’s promotion celebrating Android Market’s then 10 billion app downloads.

Said sale, however, “fudged up” the studio’s stats according to Kaplan, with the Mojang man suggesting there’s internal speculation as to the game’s true sales on the platform.

Kaplan also doesn’t reveal whether the 700,000 number relates just to paid downloads of the full version, or also includes the Lite edition.(source:pocketgamer

5)Over half of smartphone users spend more time on apps than calls/texts

by Tim Green

‘I’d rather fiddle with this currency converter than talk to you’

New research released by The Sunday Times Apps reveals that more than half of users use their phone more for apps than any other purpose such as emailing, texting or calling.

The study was conducted ahead of the publication of this weekend’s The Sunday Times Apps List 2012.

The UK newspaper convened a group of experts from mobile and vertical field such as fashion and music to decide a list of 500 essential apps, with 250 profiled on Sunday, and the remaining 250 the week after.

The list includes apps devoted to culture, entertainment, sport, food, travel, health and science. It will be refreshed every week online.

Other findings from the study were all fairly ho-hum for the mobile insider, but here they are anyway:

* Half of the UK population now owns a smartphone

* In 2011 over a million different apps were available

* Almost 80 per cent of the apps people download are free

* In the last week of 2011 there were 81 million downloads in the UK alone

* The average smartphone owner in the UK keeps around 38 apps on their device

* Over half download a new app at least once a week(source:mobile-ent
