4)前Zynga首席系统设计师Erin Hoffman(她还是2004年指责EA公司迫使员工超时加班的“EA_Spouse”邮件作者)最近加入社交游戏工作室Loot Drop,担任后者的首席设计师。

1)Facebook Announces Top 2011 Games

AJ Glasser

Facebook has compiled a list of its most popular games for 2011, as well as lists of other games with notable achievements for the year.

The data was compiled primarily using active user counts and user reviews. Facebook adjusted its methods for counting active users in October, which may have had an impact on the final figures used to compile its lists. Facebook also tells us that, of its monthly gamers, 25% play at least ever other day with the average gamer playing more than three different titles per month.(source:insidesocialgames

2)INFOGRAPHIC: Facebook Has 95% Market Share in U.S.

by Jennifer Moire

New data from comScore shows what many Facebookers might have already guessed:  Social networking really means time spent on Facebook.

Ben Elowitz broke down the data on his Digital Quarters blog today, which reveals that Facebook accounts for 95 percent of social networking time in the U.S.

In his blog post, Elowitz adds:

In terms of being relevant to consumer audiences, there’s now no question that “social” means “Facebook.”

And, if you want to take advantage of the more than one  in every seven  minutes of online time that consumers spend on Facebook, you follow one simple rule for media in a social age: You must be present — in the Facebook news feed — to win.

Readers, do you agree with these numbers showing Facebook is the dominant social networking site?(source:allfacebook

3)MySpace Japan Office To Close In February [Social Networks]

by Dr. Serkan Toto

It’s not a big surprise: MySpace Japan will close its office early next year, according to Japanese news site IT Media. According to the report, MySpace in the US will manage the Japanese version starting February 1, 2012.

MySpace Japan was established as early as November 2006, but the SoftBank-News Corp. joint venture never took off (MySpace Japan has its office in SoftBank’s HQ in Tokyo).

In Japan, MySpace counted a total of 1.09 million users in August this year, a far cry from Facebook‘s over 6 million or Mixi‘s 25 million registered users.(source:serkantoto

4)Industry Veteran And Activist Erin Hoffman Joins Loot Drop

by Tom Curtis

Erin Hoffman, former Zynga lead systems designer and the author of the infamous “EA_Spouse” letter, has joined social game studio Loot Drop as a lead designer.

Hoffman is perhaps best known for writing an open letter in 2004 about Electronic Arts’ strict crunch practices, which eventually led to a number of companies establishing a paid overtime rule.

She also has several years of experience working with online games, and has helped developed games such as Zynga’s FrontierVille, the licensed title Kung Fu Panda World, and Simutronics’ DragonRealms.

“Erin brings a soul to social games, and that’s something I’d say about few game designers in this space. She genuinely believes in making games fun — first and foremost — and that’s something core at Loot Drop. We are grateful she’s joined us,” said company COO Brenda Brathwaite.

In addition, Hoffman served on the International Game Developers Association’s board of directors from 2009 until earlier this year, and was listed among NextGen’s most influential women in the industry in 2006.

Loot Drop was founded in November 2010 by industry veterans John Romero, Robert Sirotek and Tom Hall. In October the company revealed that it is working on an unannounced project with Ubisoft as its publisher. (source:gamasutra

5)Ninja Saga, Diamond Dash Top This Week’s List of Fastest-Growing Facebook Games by DAU

AJ Glasser

It’s the first week in over a month that we haven’t seen a Zynga game on our list of fastest-growing Facebook games by daily active users. Our top three spots this week are occupied by Ninja Saga, Diamond Dash, and Tetris Battle.

Diamond Dash made the jump to mobile early this month with a cross-platform iOS version. Just after the launch, Diamond Dash DAU jumped by 300,000 — which may be directly related to mobile users logging into the app with Facebook Connect. German developer wooga was one of Facebook’s launch partners for its HTML5-driven mobile platform, which does function on Android , so we expect to see Diamond Dash Android-bound sometime in the near future.(source:insidesocialgames
