4)继两年前向App Store发布热门游戏《Call of Duty: World at War Zombies》之后,动视公司最近又推出该系列iOS射击游戏新作《Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies》。

1)Zynga CEO Mark Pincus points to mobile growth with company up to 13 million DAUs

by Jon Jordan

With Zynga executives attempting to drum up investor interest for the company’s US IPO, more details about its business model are being made available.

In a recent lunch meeting in Boston, CEO Mark Pincus revealed the company now has 13 million daily active users on iOS, Android and mobile web, according to Reuters.

This is up from 11.1 million in October, and the 9.9 million listed in the company’s original S-1 form.

Triple word score

The company’s main mobile game is Words With Friends, which it inherited when it bought Texas studio Newtoy for $53.3 million in December 2010.

Its userbase has jumped from 2 million users a year ago to around 10 million.

The vast bulk of Zynga players and revenues still come from Facebook, however, with Pincus saying that of its 227 million total monthly active players, only 7.7 million purchase in-game credits.

“We could see that doubling,” Reuters reports him as saying, highlighting the company’s future growth prospects. (source:pocketgamer

2)Kindle Fire to grab 50 per cent of Android tablet market in 2012

by Zen Terrelonge

Amazon’s device may “vaporise” rivals.

The online retailer’s debut tablet has caused quite the stir already and is reported to have shipped as many as four million devices since its US launch last month.

The Kindle Fire is also rumoured to have become the number two to Apple’s leading iPad 2.

Now, an analyst from Evercore Partners has informed CNN Money, the Kindle Fire is poised to become the most popular Android tablet ever.

Robert Chira, said: “While Amazon’s Kindle Fire has come out of the gates strong, as expected, we see Apple maintaining its competitive lead, if anything accentuated by what now looks like the only tablet to so far mount any credible iPad challenge apparently needing to do so by selling at cost; not to mention Amazon’s success may just vaporise other “for profit” Android tablet OEM roadmaps (e.g. we est Amazon 50% of all Android tablets in CY12).

“Meanwhile Apple goes on as the only vendor able to cream off the most profitable segment of each market it targets, whether tablet, smartphone or PC.”

The Kindle Fire’s apparent success has been put down to its $199 price tag, which is cheaper than a lot of other tablets on the market.

New rumours on the blogosphere claim the Fire may launch in the UK at the start of 2012, but there has been nothing official from Amazon so far.(source:mobile-ent

3)Mobile market in Europe is worth 174 billion euros

by Tim Green

That’s one per cent of European Economic Area GDP.

New stats from the GSMA’s Mobile Observatory series (European edition) re-state the contribution the mobile industry makes to the European economy (or what’s left of it).

It says that in addition to the GDP contribution, mobile also puts 83bn euros into public funding, directly employs 370,000 Europeans and ‘induces’ the employment of 1.3 million more.

The report also suggests that mobile is vital for future economic growth, and that by matching US levels of ICT investment, European states could add an additional euro 760 billion to their collective GDP by 2020, which represents a five per cent increase over forecasts.

Overall, the mobile penetration rate in Europe is 128 per cent in Europe (versus 100 per cent in Japan and 104 per cent in the United States). This represents 656 million individual subscriptions held by an estimated 456 million Europeans (89 per cent of the population)

Meanwhile mobile broadband is forecast to continue growing at over 90 per cent for the next five years, driving service innovation areas such as:

* New communication tools beyond voice, text and VoIP

* Entertainment/multimedia rich content

* Mobile payment/NFC

* Retail/marketing

* Mobile monitoring/mHealthcare

* Cloud storage

Anne Bouverot, director general, GSMA, said: “The Observatory’s findings show that the mobile industry is a critical business sector in Europe; in just 20 years, the mobile industry has grown to become comparable in size to aerospace and larger than pharmaceuticals, with total revenues amounting to euro 174 billion in 2010 and creating an estimated 1.7 million jobs.”(source:mobile-ent

4)Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies Resurrects a Classic on iOS

Randy Nelson

Two years after releasing the still-popular Call of Duty: World at War Zombies on the App Store, Activision has unleashed another undead-filled iOS shooter in the franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies. While the original was set in World War II and based on the console and PC title Call of Duty: World at War, this follow-up is based on Call of Duty: Black Ops, released for consoles and PC in November 2010. This title specifically re-creates Black Ops’ popular “Zombies” mode, and allows up to four players to collaborate in surviving an attack by the living dead by using every weapon and obstacle at their disposal.

In addition to the main game, Black Ops Zombies includes a Dead-Ops Arcade mode. This is a completely separate game with gameplay presented from a top-down perspective. It’s played like many of the “twin-stick” shooters on the app store, with players moving using one virtual thumbstick and shooting in 360 degrees with the other. It offers 50 levels, with support for up to four players to cooperate via Game Center.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies is a universal app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. It sells for $6.99 and Activision has announced that all future updates, including new levels, will be offered free of charge. The game is currently ranked No. 11 on the App Store’s list of top-selling iPhone gaming apps, and No. 2 on the top-grossing iPhone games list. It’s also ranked No. 11 on the paid games list for iPad, and is the No. 16 top-grossing game on Apple’s tablet.(source: insidemobileapps

5)Angry Birds turns two this weekend. Rovio celebrates in style.

Dan Crawley

The smash hit mobile game Angry Birds turns two on Dec. 11, having been downloaded over half a billion times since launch. To celebrate the occasion, Rovio is offering up new levels, menus and special ‘birdday’ achievements, which will be made available in an iOS update.

There will be 15 specially themed birthday levels appearing on iOS this Sunday, and all existing episodes of the game will be unlocked. Updates for other platforms will be following soon.

Finnish developer Rovio has teamed up with Barnes and Noble in the U.S., with special events and giveaways taking place in stores on Dec. 11, from 11 am to 3 pm. Toys ‘R’ Us will also be offering discounts on Angry Birds plush toys on Sunday, and will be giving out a code that unlocks an Angry Birds Google Chrome bonus level.

Angry Birds celebrations will also be hitting the Apple store in Ginza, Japan, where Rovio chief marketing officer Peter Vesterbacka will give a presentation on Angry Birds’ success story.

The story of Rovio’s rise to the forefront of the gaming world really is quite remarkable. In December 2009, Rovio was just a small Finnish developer. Two years down the line, Angry Birds has become the most popular app ever, the company has been valued at over $1 billion  and Hollywood has apparently been knocking on the door.(source:venturebeat

6)Infographic: What Tools Developers Actually Use

By David Strom

BestVendor.com interviewed 500 developers and compiled this profile of the tools that they actually use. A few stalwarts, such as Git, Eclipse, AWS, Dropbox, MySQL, and Google Analytics. But a few surprises too, including 23% use Notepad++ as their text editor and 8% using Heroku for hosting their apps. Many of the categories are wide open too. All of those surveyed are from smaller companies of less than 100 people from around the world.(source:readwriteweb
