2)NPD Group

1.苹果iPhone 4

2.苹果iPhone 3GS

3.HTC EVO 4G

5.三星Intensity II

1)Android Now On Majority Of New Mobile Phones Sold Worldwide

by Kyle Orland

A new estimate of the worldwide mobile market shows Android phones represented more than half of all new mobile phones sold in the third quarter of 2011.

Market tracking firm Gartner reports that more than 60 million Android phones were sold worldwide between July and September, making up 52.5 percent of the total new phone market.

That’s more than double the 25.3 percent share Google’s mobile OS enjoyed the year before, and up from a 43.4 percent share in the second quarter of 2011.

Android’s growth comes primarily at the expense of Symbian phones, which now represent only 16.9 percent of new phone sales, down from 36.3 percent last year. Apple’s iPhone makes up 15 percent of all mobile phone sales, down slightly from 16.6 percent in 2010.

Research in Motion’s Blackberry OS took up 11 percent of new mobile phone sales, while Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform continued to languish at only 1.5 percent of the market.

These numbers only represent new phone sales, not overall usage across mobile phone owners. A recent ComScore report estimated smartphones as a whole made up only 37 percent of cell phones being used in the U.S.

“Android benefited from more mass-market offerings, a weaker competitive environment and the lack of exciting new products on alternative operating systems such as Windows Phone 7 and RIM,” Gartner research analyst Roberta Cozza said.(source:gamasutra

2)59 per cent of US handsets sold are smartphones

by Zen Terrelonge

Average device retails at $135.

Market researcher The NPD Group says the percentage of smartphones sold among all handsets in the US has grown from 13 per cent in Q3 2010 up to 59 per cent in this year’s third quarter.

Across four quarters running smartphone prices have fallen and the average device for Q3 was priced at $135, according to the report.

The NPD’s Smartphone Track service says the price cuts are happening despite consumers that are willing to pay between $200 to $250, which saw 64 per cent end up paying less than $200.

Apple continues domination followed by Android as the top five best-selling Q3 handsets includes:

1. Apple iPhone 4

2. Apple iPhone 3GS

3. HTC EVO 4G

4. Motorola Droid 3

5. Samsung Intensity II

Ross Rubin, executive director of industry analysis for NPD, said: “Even as smartphone prices continue to decline, the accessory attachment rates for smartphones in Q3 was unchanged since last year.

“This indicates further opportunity for retailers to improve revenue numbers by focusing marketing efforts on selling more accessories.”(source:mobile-ent

3)Korean game startup Pangalore targets HTML5 games

Dean Takahashi

More and more game companies are turning to the HTML5 web format to create cross-platform games. The latest is Pangalore, a social and mobile game startup based in Seoul.

Pangalore was founded in May to create games that can run on multiple platforms by using HTML5 as their technical foundation. Pangalore built from scratch a game engine that can work within the limits of HTML5, said Doyon Kim, chief product officer and co-founder of the company who runs the office in San Jose, Calif., in an interview.

Pangalore is announcing two new Facebook and mobile games today: Artfit and Wild West Solitaire. Both are slow-moving, cartoon-like titles that accommodate the main weakness of HTML5 now: slow speed. Pangalore is also working on two more titles, Pop the Candy and Bubble Prince, for release later. Kim says the company will release titles every couple of months.

“The benefit of HTML5 games is that you can start them on one platform and then finish them on another,” Kim said. “We designed our games from the start to be multiplatform games.”

While young, the company has a big staff. It has 25 employees and funding from NHN, the largest online game portal in Korea. The good thing about HTML5 games is they can run on just about any platform, from Facebook to Android phones and tablets. It runs on browsers on mobile devices, PCs, and Macs. Pangalore is also making native format games for the Apple iPhone.

Kim said that deeper strategy and role-playing games are in the works as well, using the Unity 3D game engine. Those games, including a simulation title, will be coming in early 2012. Among the team are some experienced game creators including those who created Ragnarok Online, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game with 3 million players in North America.

The games are free-to-play and are accessible from a single Facebook account that works across all devices. Kim co-founded the firm with Brian Kang, former chief executive of Gravity and a former venture capitalist. Kim previously founded Dialpad Communications, Opinity and Spotplex. Rivals included other HTML5 game makers such as Moblyng and Zynga.(source:venturebeat

4)Ustwo’s Whale Trail hits 100,000 paid downloads on iOS in 25 days

by Keith Andrew

Back in August, ustwo CHIEF WONKA mills took to the pages of PG.biz to claim that, despite having no real experience in creating a successful game, the UK/Swedish studio would soon have an iOS hit on its hands.

Less than three months later, and the latest Whale Trail download figures from ustwo itself – 100,000 and counting – suggest mill’s prediction was as prophetic as it was confident.

Winning with Willow

Whale Trail hit the App Store 25 days ago, meaning Willow’s adventures have been generating around 4,000 downloads a day – though mills has revealed that, at peak, daily downloads have climbed as high as 11,000.

“We made Whale Trail so that we could sit among the iOS gaming greats and I feel we are on our way to being welcomed,” mills said via email.

“Apple made us ‘Game of the Week’ in something like 78 countries including US and UK on launch, which is the ultimate accolade.

“Every gaming site covered the launch and more importantly the players seem to really love the mix of simple gameplay mechanics and psychedelic madness. It’s pure ustwo in a micro package.”

Update inbound

Other stats released by the firm include a total of 800 five star reviews on the App Store, with an additional 2,699 five star ratings.

But ustwo isnt standing still to admire its success. Next up is a “major update” designed to increase the current 1,000 downloads a day tail, including new challenge chapters and 32 unlockable levels and to sit along the main endless mode.

In-app purchases are also set to be included, as well as an Android version, lauching at the same time.

Mills has previously stated on Twitter that the studio needs to sell 300,000 copies of Whale Trail on iOS to break even on the project, proclaiming the 69p market on the App Store “dead”. (source:pocketgamer

5)Survey: Tech companies the most trustworthy, but execs overpaid

by Aislyn Greene

Microsoft COO Kevin Turner is the company’s most highly paid executive, with compensation package worth $9.3 million.
Americans trust tech companies more than those in any other industry, according to a new survey of Americans’ opinions on business and government from the Public Affairs Council. Those surveyed also said executives at big companies in all industries are overpaid.

Twenty-nine percent of the nearly 1,800 adults surveyed said technology companies are more trustworthy than other sectors, though the survey didn’t address the reasoning behind this trust. The next most trustworthy are food and beverages companies, with those in the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries ranking as the least trustworthy.

Despite the Occupy protests and general dissatisfaction with financial institutions, only 41 percent of respondents said banking and financial institutions were less trustworthy than other industries. (Note: This survey was conducted before the Occupy Wall Street movement launched in September.)

Overall, the study found that a majority of Americans (61 percent) have a favorable opinion of big business. Interviewees said most businesses provide useful products and services and generally serve customers well. Criticism centered around companies having too much power and making too much profit, with CEOs as the lightning rod for the most severe complaints.

CEOs and other top level executives were criticized for having low ethics, high compensation and, especially, for the large bonuses they receive. Seventy-six percent of those surveyed said companies overpay their executives, while 56 percent say lower-level employees are not being paid fairly.

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz and F5 Networks CEO John McAdam were the two of the most highly paid executives in Washington last year, pulling in nearly $22 million and $8.9 million respectively. Microsoft COO Kevin Turner is the company’s most highly paid executive this year, with a total compensation package worth about $9.3 million.

The survey also found that younger Americans see large businesses in a favorable light than older Americans. Members of Gen Y — those aged 18-34 — gave the highest approval rating (71 percent), while baby boomers and seniors had a roughly 50 percent approval rating.

“While the images we see of the Occupy Wall Street movement indicate young people are the most dissatisfied with corporations, this group actually gave companies higher approval ratings than Baby Boomers and seniors,” said Doug Pinkham, president of the Public Affairs Council, in the study.(source:techflash

6)Android Malware Up 472% Since July, Juniper Says [Infographic]

By Dan Rowinski

Looking back at 2011, we could call it subtitle it as The Year Of Android Malware. It started with DroidDream and reports have been issued all year that have shown exponential growth in Android malware. It is not getting any better. If Juniper’s research can be believed, it is getting much worse.

Juniper says there has been a 472% rise in Android malware samples since July 2011. Juniper says that almost all of the Android malware contains code for root access that will force the device to communicate with a command-and-control server and download additional instructions. 55% of Android malware acts as spyware and the rise of “SMS Trojans” has become a significant problem.

Recent Jump In Android Malware
Juniper notes that Android’s open market structure, where almost any developer can pay $25 for developer access that can be anonymized, is the primary culprit for the rise of Android malware. Juniper notes that iOS may or may not be any safer but that Apple makes it safer by requiring code signatures and pre-screening all apps. Smart Android publishers put code signatures into their apps because they know that the security applications have the capability of white and black listing certain signatures and that helps them keep their app out of the malware repository that security apps scan for.

October and November have seen the highest growth rates for Android malware samples since the rise of the platform, according to Juniper. The number of samples grew 28% in September, October had a 110% increase over September and a 171% increase from July 2011.

Spyware with root access is the main threat from malicious Android applications. Juniper notes that the vulnerability to root access from malicious apps is prevalent in 90% of Android devices in the consumer market. Outside of spyware, the SMS Trojan makes up 44% of Android malware. Juniper published another post today showing that much of the SMS Trojan activity is coming out of Russia.

SMS Trojans work by getting users to click on text messages or links in emails that will prompt them to pay for an app through premium text messages. These are often from pirated of cracked apps. The problem is that users end up paying for free apps, like Opera Mini for Android, or developers do not get paid for their premium apps.(source:readwriteweb
