独立手机应用平台GetJar近日对外发布公告称，他们的平台日应用程序下载超过300万次。

和Apple App Store面向iPhones、Googles’ Market 面向Androids以及Ovi Store 面向Nokia devices不同，GetJar可以服务于不同的手机操作平台。

据统计，GetJar在6月份率先于Android和Ovi获得10亿次的下载。目前该平台已经实现了单日300万次的下载量，这些分别来自200个国家和地区的手机用户。这个数据在和诺基亚的OVI竞争中取得了领先，后者单日下载量为170万次。

Who’s GetJar?

Of the four big app stores, GetJar is the only one that doesn’t have a device platform to rely on. The Apple App Store sells directly onto its own iPhones; Googles’ Market sells onto Androids; and the Ovi Store sells to Nokia devices. GetJar has no owner, and no device platform as a safety net. The apps available over GetJar are free-to-download, and can be run on any device OS.

Of the big four, GetJar is the second largest in terms of total app downloads. It defended the title from Nokia in December last year, and in June it passed 1 billion app downloads before either Android or Ovi.

What’s the news?

GetJar users around the world now consistently download over 3,000,000 applications every day. These downloads come from 200 countries, and 2000 different handset models. Along with the per-day figure, GetJar also released some other interesting stats:

* As apps have increased in popularity, GetJar daily downloads have increased 300% year-on-year

* Android went from being a non-entity last year to being the second largest source of applications this year

* Indian users download far more productivity apps than other markets

* The most downloaded app is Facebook Mobile

What we think?

While GetJar is certainly having a lot of success as compared to the Ovi store (which announced 1.7 million downloads a day recently), it will probably lose the title of second biggest app store fairly shortly. According to Androlib, daily downloads on the Android Market are currently approaching 3.4 million – and Android app downloads are growing fast. But those numbers have never been verified by Google itself, so it’s impossible to say when the Market will overtake GetJar. But it’s almost certain it will happen at some point – in this circumstance, GetJar lacks the advantage of the vast budget that Google can throw at the problem.
