[This unedited press release is made available courtesy of Gamasutra and its partnership with notable game PR-related resource GamesPress.]
Yesterday at the 2nd annual Canadian Videogame Awards in Vancouver, Frima Studios received the award for Best Social/Casual game for Pocket God on Facebook. Since its release in December 2010, the playful “Good God, Bad God” simulator has quickly made its way into the hearts of many with over 500,000 players on Facebook. Pocket God on Facebook, the essential anti-social social game, is based on Bolt Creative’s Pocket God for iOS, one of the most successful apps of all time with over 4 million paid downloads.
“We’re ecstatic to have been granted this huge honor for our work in the casual and social gaming market with Pocket God,” said Frima CEO Steve Couture. “Casual social games are clearly growing in popularity and the Canadian Videogame Awards are keen to recognize this trend early on. We will continue to strive to bring high quality games to our players while pushing the boundaries of the medium forward.”
In Pocket God, you are given total power and control over your island of Pygmies.
You’ll use your powers to decide whether to care for, or create havoc on your island. Cue the good god, bad god – you will have both benevolent powers to assist the islanders in obtaining nourishment, or you can choose to cause destruction and chaos with countless creative ways to dispatch your Pygmies.（source:gamasutra）
3）Adventure Quest paved the way for GagaVille, Artix Entertainment says
by Joe Osborne
Did this popular free-to-play browser massively multiplayer game (MMO) also blaze the trail for Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and even Seth Rogen’s involvement in Zynga’s games as well? Artix Entertainment, creator of Adventure Quest Worlds, claims in a press release that its in-game celebrity promotions were the precursor to Zynga’s immense Lady Gaga tie-in, GagaVille.
The company has held an annual Friday the 13th celebration within its flagship game since March 2009, which has featured apparent celebrities like “voice actor George Lowe, musical duo Paul & Storm with a cameo by singer/songwriter Jonathan Coulton, musician Voltaire, and musical band One Eyed Doll.” Now, hopefully without sounding pompous, who the hell are any of these dudes?
The developer even cites SOE’s Free Realms and KingIsle’s Wizard 101 as followers to its tune with promotions involving Selena Gomez, The Dares and most recently Nick Jonas. If we really want to get technical, I’d say John Madden preemptively stopped this debate in its tracks with John Madden Football in 1988. So, eat that, Lady Gaga (don’t forget Voltaire).（source:games）
4）The Flirt Game Exemplifies Stone Creek Entertainment’s Focus on Emerging Female Market
By Pete Davison
What makes this a game more so than a dating service app with gamification elements is the division between singleplayer and multiplayer. The singleplayer version allows players to answer questions with the role of the second person being filled by a character archetype. Members of MTV’s Real World program also appear as characters in singleplayer and Wood tells us the real life cast members did answer all of the 468 questions available in singleplayer. Multiplayer mode features additional questions, and the ability to play synchronously with friends, friends or friends, or other players currently online in the game. There’s also asynchronously play with the “date offline” mode. In total there are 678 questions in The Flirt Game.
“It’s very deep,”explains Sharon Wood, Founder and CEO of Stone Creek Entertainment. “We wanted to offer different ways to connect to others, and make it as player-friendly as possible.”
The game is monetized via the sale of premium avatar items using two levels of currency. Flirt Coins can be acquired through gameplay or via Social Gold, while Flirt Cash can only be acquired through Social Gold. Wood notes that the game is currently in the process of implementing Facebook Credits, and that the game will offer more Facebook Credits features as time goes on, as well as partnering with an ad network.（source:insidesocialgames）

This growth was strong enough to earn it a spot on our fastest-growing games by MAU earlier this week.
Moving down the list, we see some familiar favorites like N.O.V.A. Elite and the unofficial Super Mario 3 app. We also see Kabam’s latest strategy-focused offering, Global Warfare, debuting at number seven.（source:insidesocialgames）

7）FrontierVille: Zynga asks if you want to be warned of upcoming features
by Brandy Shaul
Over on the official FrontierVille forums, Zynga is asking users a simple question – just how much notice do you want when it comes to new features? Would you rather be given a two or three day advanced warning about new buildings or features that will launch in the future? Or, are you the type of player that wants to login and be surprised when something new releases?
You have a quartet of options to choose from, ranging from “it’s perfect,” to “I don’t care,” but of course, you can always give a detailed response in the accompanying thread. Why does your choice matter? With Zynga using the FrontierVille fan page to give brief previews of upcoming events, the most popular answer here could potentially shape the way we find out about new features in the future. If Zynga feels that users aren’t excited, they may even slow down the releases, and I know I can’t be the only pioneer that would hate to see that happen.
As of right now, not very many players have voted, but the poll is incredibly new, so things haven’t really had a chance to take shape. Still, it looks as though people are favoring the options with more information being given sooner, rather than none at all.（source:games）
