Where the overall package excels is in the way it teaches you how to play each variety of the game. These interactive tutorials are entirely optional, and manage to avoid bogging you down with jargon.

It not only presents a slick and fully featured game of poker, but it does so in a remarkably assured and stylish way. DTHe’s funky comic book presentation really sets it apart from the other games on this list.

The game also succeeds by doing something rare – introducing an element of risk and reward. You may only be playing for virtual cash, but losing it might mean you won’t be able to afford entry into the more prestigious tournaments, thus sending you into the small time.

Combined with strong AI and a helpful advice system, Downtown Texas Hold ‘em is the king of cards on mobile.
