社交游戏领域的企业并购已经很久没有动静了，但美国社交游戏巨头Zynga日前又首先打破了沉寂，宣布收购位于德克萨斯州的手机游戏开发商Newtoy。

虽然这笔交易的有关协议尚未公布，但据Newtoy所称，该公司的《Words With Friends》这款手机游戏每月营收就已经超过了100万美元，因此不难判断Newtoy的收购成交额应该达数千万美元。

据了解，在微软关闭策略类游戏工作室Ensemble之后，Ensemble的两名成员Paul和David Bettner就在2008年成立了Newtoy工作室，该工作室推出的《Games With Friends》系列（现包括《Words With Friends》和《Chess With Friend》这两款游戏），在iOS平台上的每月活跃用户人数已经突破500万。此外，Newtoy还开发了一款由ngmoco公司负责发行的免费模式游戏《We Rule》。

被收购的Newtoy工作室将更名为Zynga Wtih Friends，除了继续开拓现存游戏业务，还将面向Zynga网站开发新游戏。

Newtoy的原首席执行官及联合创始人Paul Bettner将担任新工作室的副总裁兼总经理，另一名联合创始人David则成为工作室主管。

Zynga bulks up on mobile, buys Friends with Words and We Rule developer Newtoy

The social games M&A scene has been quiet recently, but US market leader Zygna has made a very sensible deal picking up Texas outfit Newtoy.

The terms of the acquisition weren’t disclosed, but as Newtoy said it was making over $1 million per month from Words With Friends, it would likely be measured in the tens of millions.

Formed in 2008 by Paul and David Bettner after Microsoft shut down strategy developer Ensemble, its Games With Friends series (including Words With Friends and Chess With Friend), has over five million monthly active users on iOS.

Newtoy also developed the ngmoco published freemium game We Rule.

New owner, new name

The Newtoy office will now be called Zynga With Friends, and as well as leveraging its existing franchise, will build new games for the Zynga network.

Newtoy CEO and co-founder Paul Bettner assumes the role of veep and general manager of the Zynga With Friends studio with David being studio director.

“We’re reinventing the way people are social on their mobile devices,” said Paul Bettner. “The Zynga With Friends studio will build on the Newtoy legacy of creating approachable, highly social games that are accessible to anyone from anywhere.”
