Incomm致力于拓宽社交游戏虚拟货币礼品卡使用范围

礼品卡和预付卡经销商Incomm对很多大型社交游戏公司而言意义重大,其中,FarmVille或Sorority Life等拥有大量用户基础的社交游戏,更能支撑零售礼品卡的发售。

纵观2010年,新发布的社交游戏中鲜有发展得像FarmVille一样气势如虹的。因此尽管新增了零售商伙伴和进军国际市场,Incomm仍然没有和社交游戏开发公司达成直接合作。然而,许多小型游戏开发公司还是希望未来能通过发售礼品卡作为公司的盈利途径之一。

目前,Incomm与社交网站Facebook合作经销新款Facebook信用卡。但同时,Incomm还计划发布虚拟货币Zeevex。

对此,Incomm公司的发展副总裁Dave Etling表示Incomm最近与许多拥有足够用户量的公司取得合作。他认为数字内容是近年来发展最为迅速的领域之一。该公司从去年10月份起这部分就占了公司业务的20%

实际上,早在17到13年前就有人萌生了使用礼品卡购买虚货币品的想法。所有人都可以购买和使用礼品卡。但也有反馈说预付卡中的余额无法与其他渠道的虚拟货币拆用。

Dave Etling认为礼品卡可以吸引更多免费玩家。他指出有的客户会用信用卡付款,也有的会使用礼物卡,尤其得知某人有玩社交游戏时就可以赠送礼品卡。

此外,礼品卡还有令人意想不到的功用。部分不愿意让亲人知道自己付费买虚拟商品的玩家就可以买张礼品卡,充值完成后就丢掉,因为这种卡片是不记名的。

Gift and prepaid card distributor InComm is significant to just a handful of the largest social game companies — those with games like FarmVille and Sorority Life that have enough users to support sales of a dedicated retail gift card.

Over 2010, few new games have emerged with similar scale, so despite moves to add new retail partners and international markets, Incomm still isn’t directly involved with most social game developers.

Smaller game developers may want to start thinking about gift cards as part of their future revenue, though. InComm is one of the partners Facebook works with to distribute the new Facebook Credits gift cards, and it is also working to launch Zeevex, a virtual currency startup that it bought in March, with smaller games and alternate gaming platforms.

“We’ve been signing up new partners that can’t do the volume to support a prepaid card,” says Dave Etling, InComm’s vice president of development. “I can tell you that digital content is one of the fastest-growing segments of our business today. We’ve already beat our numbers from last year through October by about 28%, and traditionally November and December are by far our biggest months.”

The idea with gift cards is to give 13 to 17 year olds a way to buy virtual currency in shops. Of course, anyone can buy the cards and use them. But Etling says the feedback he’s heard is that gift cards don’t cannibalize revenue from other sources.

“It has actually attracted a new user base that would play and never pay,” says Etling. “There are consumers who would pay with credit cards, do a gift card and then go back to credit — they got the gift because somebody knew they were into this particular social game.”

And as always when consumers are offered a new alternative, there are some unexpected uses. “The other pink elephant is that there are certain consumers who may not want their husband or wife to know they’re paying for virtual goods, and they’ll pick up a card at Walmart and put it in the basket to continue playing. We know it can be used for anonymity,” says Etling.
