UK retailers Game and Tesco will be among the first to carry prepaid cards with Facebook Credits on them.

The popular social networking site uses a system known as Facebook Credits that allows users to make microtransactions in social games and apps. The two companies have agreed to stock the cards in the UK and Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Target will carry them in the US.

Tesco has 2,482 locations all of which will offer the new Facebook Credit cards, while Game will carry the prepaid cards at its 683 stores. Facebook said that it will work with several retailers to provide the cards to its more than 250 million users.

Currently, the payment system is accepted by 22 of 25 apps on the social networking site. Facebook Credits’ product marketing director, Deborah Liu, said the virtual currency currently is just for Facebook.com, but that the company would like to extend the system to Facebook Connect, an API that allows third-party apps to use Facebook.

Ms Liu also added Facebook would like to expand the credit system to its third-party partners to allow users to purchase apps and game items for conveniently.
