Game Center非宿敌,OpenFeint用户增至5000万

在苹果Game Center刚刚登场时,大家都认为其他iOS手机社交游戏平台表面乐观,实则都暗自绷紧了神经,不过OpenFeint平台最近宣布的好消息则表明,这些第三方平台并非强颜欢笑,而是真正分享到了Game Center带来的好处。

OpenFeint表示,自Game Center问世以来,自己的社交游戏平台用户规模已从原来的2200万人扩大到了5000万人,OpenFeint与Game Center这两者是互惠互利而非彼此竞争的关系。

该公司首席执行官Jason Citron表示,他们的iOS和Android用户数量都在快速增长,“自从Game Center发布后,我们每月新增用户超过400万人,更为惊人的是,在过去七个月中,有1.25亿款下载游戏的玩家激活了OpenFeint的功能。”

OpenFeint还认为,许多开发商同时在游戏中添加了Game Center的积分排行榜等初级功能,以及OpenFeint的动作重放等更复杂、更高级的功能。

开发商Fishlabs工作室的CEO迈克尔·施德(Michael Schade)表示,“我们在《Galaxy on Fire 2》中同时使用了Game Center和OpenFeint的社交功能,结果这款游戏不到2周时间就打入了iTunes应用排行榜的头阵。OpenFeint还提供了一些可以吸引硬核游戏玩家的特殊功能,使用OpenFeint网站的储存卡选项,玩家就可以在多个移动平台上玩《Galaxy on Fire 2》而不用担心丢失游戏经验。”

OpenFeint宣称,目前为止已有300个以上的开发商同时选用了OpenFeint和Game Center的游戏功能,共有1万4千个以上的工作室采用了OpenFeint平台的功能。

OpenFeint’s userbase doubles to 50 million on back of Game Center

At the time of Game Center’s unveiling, there was a sense that the positive spin from those behind existing iOS social networks was a little forced.

However, claims by OpenFeint that its userbase has more than doubled since Apple’s network went live suggest those painted smiles are now genuine.

OpenFeint says the number of registered users on its network has jumped from 22 million to 50 million, with the company claiming – as it did back then – that the two platforms compliment each other, rather than act as competition.

“We’re experiencing incredible growth on iOS and Android,” said CEO Jason Citron.

“Since Game Center launched, we’ve added over 4 million players every month. Even more amazing, our players have activated OpenFeint in over 125 million game downloads during the last seven months.”

Horses for courses

OpenFeint believes many developers use Game Center for implementing basic features – leaderboards and so on – turning to OpenFeint to serve up more complex features, like action replays.
 
“We used Game Center and OpenFeint’s social features to push Galaxy on Fire 2 to the top of the top grossing charts in iTunes in less than 2 weeks,” added Fishlabs’ CEO Michael Schade.

“OpenFeint also provides special features that keep hardcore gamers engaged. Using their network save card option our players play Galaxy on Fire 2 on multiple devices without losing progress.”

In total, OpenFeint claims more than 300 of the top developers have implemented both platforms in their titles to date, with OpenFeint’s own roster of studios now topping 14,000.
